Swansea ladies team who pays? 15:56 - Jun 24 with 2446 viewsReslovenSwan1

The Swansea ladies team is back in Europe and will play in Europe. Bravo to them.

https://www.swanseacity.com/news/swansea-city-ladies-handed-ac-paok-tie-champion

I presume they are unpaid and the tournament will be in Europe somewhere. Accordingly this will cost perhaps for a weeks stay something in the region of £50,000 -£100,000. In the interests of exposure where does the money come from? Is it from the club or fundraising activities? Do the Trust make a contribution? Is it self sustainable?

Please do not assume I am against spending club money on this. It has to be said I have no interest in the women's game but support it remotely.

I suspect Ferencvarosi TC is from Hungary not Turkiye. Mixed up with Fenerbahce perhaps?.

They should have to generate their own money. I’d imagine though during these woke times the club will no doubt pay, even though they can’t really afford too.

€400,000 for qualifying. Then more the further you go.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

My grand daughter is the captain of another Welsh ladies team (I won't mention their name) her team has qualified for the UEFA Women's Champions League several times.

I assumed that it was partly sponsored by UEFA partly sponsored by the FAW and other sponsors.

All inclusive, not limited to six beers a day.
I have a couple of exceptionally talented nieces, one at Everton, but they have multiple teams.

Who pays ? I’m not really bothered, opportunity’s should not be limited.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Do any of the club's numerous shareholders contribute their personal wealth to the female team?

Is the question on nobody's lips.

But in the interests of balance, there it is.

No dig at anyone here. You have invented it. I just asked if they contributed as part of their community brief. It seems they make big money as rewards for going to Europe which should cover their costs i would imagine. The only dig was by you as it happens.

Funding could be an issue if they want to turn pro and join the English league. Then there will be no Europe unless they are very good.

Nice one Keith.

We all love the game and the growth in the women’s game is long overdue.

Hopefully @Cymru will be keeping an eye on them.

Top of the shop for Welsh Women players is Team GB and the Olympics, Kilkenny. You appear to promote the women's game while knocking the Swansea academy. It could be down the line, if budgets are tight, decisions have to be made to finance the academy or the women's team not n both.

It really is embarrassing isn't it. I would feel incredibly sorry for their daughters if they were to have any.

I suspect everyone is liberal and progressive until the budget hits £2m the academy is shut and the female players demand pay parity.

No its not.

Not one player would swap @Cymru for a made up team like TeamGB.

The problem is Keith someone has to pay for them. Hopefully they can be self efficient, but I certainly wouldn’t support them being subsidised from any funds that are directly or indirectly meant to go to the first team.

I'm not sure what the operating costs and revenue are of the womens team.
I cannot see that example becoming a reality, but i would more than support money being put into the womens team to make up any shortfall.

The time will come when the ladies want to be professional and join the English league. This will need a £1m - £2m budget at a guess. I only support it if they go for independent funding.

How about an opt in method where those Swansea fans could be given the option of pay £150 more for a season ticket, and that extra money going to fund the women

Obviously funding through FAW or being self sufficient would be great, i cannot imagine there being too much that the club would have to put in.
Either way i think the team is fantastic, gives local girls a team to aspire to be in and hopefully some female footballing role models.
