Are Swansea City players really getting the message as departures are close ? 20th Jul 2022 09:00
Morgan Whittaker has spent a week thinking over moves to Exeter City, Cheltenham and now Plymouth Argyle. Apparently, it seems he has made his mind up. Despite interest again from Portsmouth we have been informed he has made his decision. And late inquiries from a further four League One clubs have faltered in recent days. 0

I don't blame them. If I was Bennett or Fulton I wouldn't be leaving either for less than I am currently earning. Fulton will have belief in his ability to be in the squad and get game time, Bennett on the other hand would be throwing away over half a million to leave on less wages and that would be mental at this late stage of his career

"That’s the dilemma, nobody is saying these players are wrong, but really how much money does any one person need ?"

They need exactly what their employer promised them they'd get when they last signed a contract. It's not individual greed to expect a business has to pay its bills.

As it stands I'm pretty sure Fulton will start the season for us until Allen is fit, so it's not like he won't be working for it.

Indeed - offering players contracts for more than we can afford and/or more than they are worth to the club is not the fault of the players.

I personally believe its financial not footballing reasons as to why Martin "excluded" Fulton form his plans . With the arrival of Downes, Pato, Natchm , Walsh we were well equipped in midfield with Pato and Downes being the gaffers choices I suspect Fulton was seen as an expensive luxury and needed to be offloaded to release money. If Martin thought he was not suitable in football terms Im sure other players would have got the nod ahead...especially as players earn monies for being on the bench , starting and coming off the bench..on top of their "basic".

Same with Bennet it is funny how how he fell off the team sheet at game 49....prior to that he was used often by Martin....

One would expect a professional sportsman to actually want to play competetive football. If I turned up for work with noting to do I would move on.

Bennett need not lose any money. He needs to find a club to play for and get a decent deal from them and Swansea will have to make up the difference. Almost all major clubs have these issues.

Personally I would like to see him go to DC united where they get a good experienced defender (they conceded 7 last week) if Rooney likes him and the US owners share the liability between two clubs they own.

Interesting how you infer it is down to Cooper for teh amounts Bennet anf Fulton are paid...Whilst the manager would adovcate improved contracts ot a player surely it is Mr Winter who is presponsible for the negotiations and settling of terms....otherwise Im sure MArtin could have ensured the PAto strop situation was avoided?

I’d be a bit disappointed if Fulton stays. The few minutes he had last season weren’t good, at least with this style of football.
Bennett? Alway a decent solid cb but doesn’t fit the style. Financially it would bonkers, for him personally, to move.
Do we pay him too much? As so many managers have said in the past, we have to pay a premium to attract platers to Swansea.

Bennett employs an agent to keep him in work. Reading were interested and probably would pay £10k a week. Swansea would expect that as a minimum. However league 1 clubs would money play a maximum £6k or £7k a week. Turkey and USA are areas where a higher proportion of his wage would be covered. Caulker is a big success in TC.

The liability is around £500,000. They will have to bite the bullet and pay him to end his spell at Swansea. Asoro had the same treatment. This would be better than a loan.

Fulton had more than a few minutes came on ahead of Martins favorite Smith at Cardiff he started at Millwall and was subbed at 79 mins by Smith....after we had gone 1 nil up he played the whole 90 mins v Derby when we one 2-1
Fulton has been Martins go to when Downes was unavailable.....
DO you actually watch us Fulton certainly had more than a few minutes

In Bennett's case he walked away from a final year of high earnings at Wolves to come to us. Potentially he had other offers. For footballers they're not moving across the country for the weekly wage, it's the total financial package - £X over 3 years plus performance-related bonuses to relocate to Swansea and hand them your registration. You don't walk away from a huge chunk of the compensation you were offered to sign up just because your current supervisor has chosen not to give you any work to do. Or if the employer doesn't want to fulfil certain performance-related bonuses they originally offered you (for example an contract extension after 50 games).

Think about what happens when a player does well. Clubs can profit millions by selling on the registration. Swansea City earned Downes' pay back many times over. But the expectation of many fans is that players should do their club a favour if it places a losing bet, because how much money do they need?

You've got to think if Swansea were happy to pay up the difference it would have happened by now. If Swansea want him gone then the onus is on the club not the player to make that happen. Finding that much cash on hand isn't simple, it's probably more than we paid for Darling up front.

You can probably half those estimated wage offers and be nearer the mark. Reading under their embargo aren't going to be offering many £10k/week contracts, and the average League One wage is £2-3k/week (£5k would be a "highest earner" wage) it's a huge step down from Championship spending.

Turkey is on a list of countries UEFA are warning players not to go due to unpaid wages and contractual issues.

How very dare you 😉
Facts is facts though.

Cooper pushed for the Fulton deal, that’s a fact. Of course I don’t fit in to either cooper or Martin camps, over forty news items praising cooper on here are my reference.

I dont deny Cooper pushing for Fultons extension but the detail and the terms would have been negotiated by Winter and Futons agent but the article hints it was Cooper who gave him the deal

I would say personally that Cooper unlike Martin will take the plaudits from numerous people on here as long as it’s deemed a positive. Negotiations back then then were done by cooper, unless he’s a liar ? If people listened and stayed up to date with all the reports this site put on about the reasons for Cooper’s leaving we probably wouldn’t be having this conversation. Time is a great leveller as the writers on this site have found out in recent months after the inbreds shut up. Their silence is deafening.

Quote ; And, speaking before Fulton's new deal had been officially announced, Cooper said the central midfielder deserves heaps of praise from the Jack Army for the way he has performed this season. "I really want to extend Jay's contract, I hope that can get sorted out," said Cooper.

OK I've changed it.

I give up
where does that say I will sort the detail?
Cooper as coach had no input to negotiations yes as the quote says he wanted Fultons contracr extended but would have had no input to the terms...that was down to Winter and the agent....as has been the way for many years ...HJ then Birch then Winter negotited the financials so let's not pretend otherwise shall we

Pretty sure Bale has far more wealth than Bennett.

I would say - if we have to go back to June last year that was the main part of the reason initially why cooper and winter fell out. We reported that on June 3rd last year from memory.

Cooper wanted control over contracts etc ( like Martin seems to have more of now ) but winter was more in favour of the recruiting being kept separate for the coming season.

Just my view, but we do speak to a few people who are happy to lead us to water.

‘Independent’ yes, I think so.

With a view on supporting the swans of course, regardless.
