His overall match day tactics and strategy won this game for his side. Even before the game the warning signs were there as Luton came in search of their first win of the season. 3 The noise increases, click above. The noise, click below.

| Yet another disaster for slow thinking Swansea City and Russell Martin on 21:10 - Aug 20 by QJumpingJack | I wonder how the board will react to Martin going public about our financial status/transfer strategy ie having to sell before we can buy. It could now encourage lower bids for Piroe/Paterson if we are seen as desperate. |
Our profit has always seemed to vanish into thin air

Part of it is that they don't want to show their hand. Don't tell selling clubs you've got money to spend. But, this time I think they may not have the proverbial pot.

| Yet another disaster for slow thinking Swansea City and Russell Martin on 17:55 - Aug 20 by Sirjohnalot | For me, it was the complete lack of any kind of urgency or passion from the players. Even if th manager is dire, someone still should’ve taken the game by the scruff of the neck but no one bothered. Again, scared to shoot, pass, pass, pass with no end point in sight. I’ve been pro Martin but, phew, that was hard to watch, Are the owners going to back him ? Clearly need players as these guys aren’t up to it. It is simple, back him or sack him. |
They have backed him. He’s brought in rubbish. We have spent more in the last 12 months than any other 12 month period in our football league history.

Sorinola definitely looks awful to date, and Wood also is completely lost out there on the pitch. Fisher is nothing more than an average keeper at this level as well. Ogbeta it seems we will never see being given a chance. Jamie Paterson most certainly isn’t rubbish but his head isn’t right that’s for sure. Harry Darling is fairly competent but again isn’t getting to grips with what’s required of him. Joe Allen as well had an awful game against Luton. Downes of course isn’t rubbish as he went for nine million up front or in stages. The issue is as it’s been from day one, none of these players can play to the system he wants because they aren’t good enough. None of them. There’s nothing wrong with what Martin wants to achieve, but it’s never going to happen. That we can agree on I know. But I’m not sure they are rubbish. Just mismanaged at times and unable to do what’s required of them.

I think what he is trying to achieve is what we are seeing. We have seen that when he says he thinks we played well (yet got smashed). Even if this was at Man City they would struggle. Okay they wouldn’t be relegation fodder but they certainly wouldn’t be winning the league and I’d question whether they would make Champions League with ease. To play so slow, with no width, with so much useless possession is utterly dreadful and would be the case regardless of caliber of player. He has to be smart. He knows we have deficiencies at wing back yet he plays them anyway. It’s just empty headed and stubborn. Not good enough at this level. If he was American he would be torn to shreds and would have been from all angles over the last 12 months, I firmly believe that.

To be honest Keith even if we had better players this “system” is still going to provide weaknesses for the opposition to work out. There’s a decent team in there somewhere - but Martin can’t or won’t get a tune out of them. I get the feeling the club are not impressed with some of his incoming players so maybe they won’t give him any more money. Maybe they are aware that he has alienated the players and they’re possibly planning to off ramp him? Whichever way you look at it - when you have centre halves and keep buying centre halves and neglect to buy full backs it’s not a good look whinging that there’s no more money. You’ve already spent it Russ!

Said he knows people at the club aren’t going to be happy with him saying it. It’s all unraveling. The quicker and sooner the plaster is pulled off the better.
