| The Queen on 18:59 - Sep 8 by Joesus_Of_Narbereth | I think despite the titles and palaces and the riches and all the servants, living in that goldfish bowl 24 hours a day for seventy odd years with the eyes of the world on you there must be a time where you yearn for a more “normal” life. It can’t be much of a life in that sense there are a hell of a lot of sacrifices that come with the role. |
Yep. I won't say that you couldn't pay me enough to do that job, because you very definitely could, but the idea of spending a lifetime under intense public scrutiny is not a fun one.

What like a factory workers having to do the same thing day in and day out or carers having to clean buts every day or the thousands who lose family members early due to late diagnosis of various ailments something in which the well looked after queen never had to worry about, people in all forms of life have to do jobs they did not enjoy doing and yearn for better ways.

Hers was certainly a privileged life but not one she chose , but I doubt she wished for something else due to her longevity as Queen when she could have abdicated years ago

We die the same, whether in a palace or a squat. Now not the time for class hatred I’m no monarchy but surely to God a little contemplation right now might be a good idea. I was born when we had a King, now I see a Queen die within my lifetime

My point was the factory workers and carers once they’ve finished work can go to the pub, go to a restaurant with friends and families, go down the shops, go see a film with friends at any time without a gaggle of paparazzi and world media following their every move. It’s those little things in life that we take for granted that her Maj could never experience.

Nothing should be cancelled or postponed. A 96 year old person has passed away. 99.99 % of the population have never met or know her. Carry on as normal 👠

The longest living Monarch in our history has died. It’s not the age, or even the person it’s the passing of the Crown. It would be deeply inappropriate for football to go ahead as normal.

To be honest I'd prefer games to go ahead. European matches have this evening and the World hasn't ended. Life must go on.

To our history. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t affect me in any way but the way in which the world looks at us, it’s matter of dignity.

They have today but that is probably down to a matter of logistics, fans and teams having travelled for hours and who would already be here.

Man U and West Ham playing tonight and they could have called those games off last minute, forfeit the match if need be being English teams and all that, now if it was up to me games on the day of death off, games on day of funeral off, games in-between on, you watch the powers that be will largely do it the opposite way round.

Who cares what someone in another country thinks of us. Not just football, but many people will have booked, paid, taken time off work to find that they can no longer go this weekend

But why would it be inappropriate? I'm not trying to incite anything by my comment by the way as i know it is a sensitive topic to some. I do find it a bit strange how someone nobody knows has such an effect and how it is not personal choice of if people wish to mourn etc.

We will have the proclamation of Charles on Saturday. It’s inconceivable games will be played. I’m not a particular Royalist but I am a realist England v South Africa cricket called off on Friday

I am not a fan of our Monarchy but times like these happen rarely in one s lifetime The real hate will come when 50 million will be spent on coronation after a very hard ,worrying winter

I'm a realist as well that is why I think they will be postponing games between main events (day after death and funeral), but if they do as I expect then I think in this day and age that it would be ridiculous, I hope that doesn't happen.

Also as a realist, those involved with preserving the monarchy will be aware that the throne passing from the largely much loved and respected Elizabeth to the considerably less popular Charles is a precarious moment during a modern period of general antipathy towards the monarchy. They will be keen to preserve the sense of national mourning but they may also be inclined to avoid pissing off a significant portion of the population by essentially banning things people enjoy and forcing everyone to be miserable for a few weeks.

Don’t think you’re inciting anything at all, you’re being very respectful, asking a very sensible question. Like I said, I never met her, doesn’t affect me in anyway but it’s an historic occasion, which most people will not have witnesses in their lifetime. She was the most pictured woman in the world and one of the only members of the Royal Family who is (virtually) universally respected

Totally I agree. Why should people be stopped from going to the football because the queen has died
