| King in Caaardiff on 22:52 - Sep 16 by lifelong | 1.3 million people don’t speak English in London, why don’t you anti Welsh speakers get up there and complain about it? Yet, here we are in our own country where Welsh has been spoken for centuries, long before the English decided to come here and that’s all some want to do is wipe it out, well, it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere. Yma o Hyd. |
Macsen Wledig spoke Latin and probably Spanish as he was from Hispania. Funny thing about latin, the languaga all but died out, things...languages do that. PS, the English didn't come here, the English are what grew out of the Vikings, the Angles, Saxons, Romans and all those others who settled here through history. The English are like the rest of us, a crossbreed of history. No Welsh person from back then would entirely understand the Welsh spoken today, its a quite different language. That's evolution for you. All those people in London, what languages are they speaking? Maybe the language from where they were born, a languagae dominant in their own country?

I don’t mind it, but just leave it, no ramming it down everyone’s throat, do we really need every road sign multi lingual? The council recently tried to oust my kids out of a school building to move a nearby tiny Welsh language school in who claim they didn’t have enough room to expand making it a mixed site. Our mixed race school wasn’t happy about it but would have gone along with it as it’s a big site. The welshies though weren’t keen, couldn’t have their oshan’s seeing brown faces etc, whole school or nothing they said. Nice bunch

This has always been my point. It’s on a very expensive artificial respirator. If it can’t survive by itself then so be it. It will where it matters I’ve no doubt. The cost is almost double and all Welsh speakers speak English. The opposite is far from true and NEVER will be.

Up here, here s a prime example FlintFflint. Now if road signs are really just for information ,I reckon most drivers, even Non Welsh speaking ones ,know where Flint is. They don’t seem to translate Welsh signs like Penyfford into English which seems odd. Bala easier one though

Trying to expand all the Welsh medium schools too, but 90% of the parents can’t speak it. Just a pain the ass made up load of guff that should be left back in the dark ages up north…. Rant over |
Rant eweself to a dictionary and look up the word ‘target’ …. Warra divet.

Our even Flint its original name and the name known by 99% of the Welsh population and visitor from the rest of the UK. Even Ireland mainly use the English place names or the names in common usage instead of having signs in Irish and English. Cork, Dublin, Belfast, limerick, Galway etc. [Post edited 20 Sep 2022 16:25]

Almost as comical as Wrecsam . What about Ffynonngroew. You would have a heart attack if you heard how local people-Welsh people at that, prononunce it. Quai Connah is never uttered either

When in 1946 HM then Princess Elizabeth was invited to the National Eisteddfod in Mountain Ash she was given a Bardic name of Elizabeth o Windsor, no worries about pronouncing nor remembering that title .
