What is a waste for me is decided by me nobody else. I enjoyed the process and the time writing. No one has to agree. South Wales people in my experience dislike perceived narratives being challenged as with the mono political culture. It is a weakness.

Maybe Whittaker was told he was coming back to contest a spot in the first team squad after doing well in Plymouth. You’ve got a future here etc.....
Maybe Whitaker was told about the interest from other clubs, that it was early days but the Swans were now interested in selling.
Maybe Whitaker was told he’d be travelling with the match day squad, but whatever happened he wouldn’t get on the pitch because it would prevent any sale subsequent going through.
Maybe Whitaker then became a tad disillusioned as traveling could be a complete waste of his time as whatever happened, he’d not get the chance to show what he could do on the pitch.
Who knows, maybe this is the wrong end of the stick, but what we can see there appear to be several players at the club who, on the face of it should be in or around the first team and aren’t.

Things role at the end because it is a chain. Swansea get Ogbene when Obafemi goes and so on. At the end people accept realistic prices. The "tightfisted Yanks" will get no credit for discounting even if they bring in bargains.
Martin says "Swansea do not need to sell before they buy". This might be technically true but Swansea do not want SIX strikers n the books in February.
There is a concern that outgoing player could hijack deals on the point of completion and throw in a request for a leaving bonus late on. Swansea have to be prepared to keep both Obafemi and Whittaker at any point and be prepared to "do a Huw Jenkins" and have a cup of Ovaltine and have an early night. | |

This is the big decision. With Whittaker I wouldn't buy before selling, I would be happy for him to stay if the asking price is not met, but I still expect Rangers to up their offer. Patterson and Obafemi need replacing because they will not be playing either way. Obafemi was trouble when he came from Southampton, he has a history of it there, we took a chance and it didn't work our, we move on. Patterson was out of favour at Bristol that's why we got him on the cheap, were they only playing issues? Whith hindsight we shouldn't have pandered to him when he had his first strop, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
So in short don't replace Whittaker unless he goes, get a replacement in for one of the other two because imo at least one will be gone. We also need a right back. | | | |
