| WOL again prove the Obafemi point on 12:21 - Jan 28 by dobjack2 | Martin haters seem to twist any story to suit their narrative. |
There are no Martin haters, just people willing to say things as they are. Martin will become my favourite manager of all time if he can achieve things in line with that. 3 players refusing to play for a manager, awful league positions and a pattern of this throughout his whole managerial career. Nothing needs twisting, it is what it is.

Can I change that to people willing to sau it as THEY see it and there are many different opinions. I don't think Martin is the Messiah but neither do I entirely think he is the naughty little boy either. These arguments are not all his fault.

Exactly- the time it took him to come to the conclusion that 3 at the back with advanced wingbacks wasn't working and was unlikely to work was ridiculous. If players aren't playing they are generally unhappy, if players don't get the move they want they are unhappy. However how players react is down to them.

No, because I’m perfectly happy with the way I said it and stand by it. You can however have your own version of it. Nobody has said these arguments are all his fault, what is being said is that he is also to blame.

| WOL again prove the Obafemi point on 09:07 - Jan 28 by Dr_Parnassus | Indeed that’s the point I just made. Falling out with players is a world away from just not picking them. So can you name another manager of ours who has fallen out with 6 players, half of which refused to play for him? If you can, then great and we can make a case it’s normal. But I’m pretty sure you can’t. |
There’s nothing to suggest he fell out with Fulton. He just didn’t pick him. Ogbeta, by all accounts just isn’t good enough. Bennett wasn’t going to be allowed to play 50 games and trigger a new contract as one of the top earners at the club. If I was in Whitakers shoes, I’d have refused to play in a game that stopped me going to Rangers too. I also wouldn’t have wanted to come back from being a star player on loan to a squad player here. If he’s still here next week, I bet he’ll be all smiles again. Obafemi, Paterson absolutely, though it’s not as if he didn’t try to cajole the pair of them before eventually writing them off as toxic. If we’re counting players who fall out of favour from previous regimes, aren’t considered good enough, don’t fit the managers playing style or are within a couple of games of triggering a lucrative contract extension, then yes, I’m pretty confident I can do that for any of our recent managers.

| WOL again prove the Obafemi point on 11:45 - Jan 28 by SullutaCreturned | Yes but you say he has fallen out with them, he hasn't really, has he. Not picking anyone doesnt mean an argument. Pato insyigated the argument over money. Obafemi instigated the argument over Burnley. Piroe maybe but claiming it's 6 seems a tad exuberant. |
I think Patersons started over a club social media post saying he’d triggered an extra year, when he was happy to stay but wanted to renegotiate his contract

I’m telling you he fell out with everyone I listed. He told Fulton he would never play for the club again. You can choose to believe or disbelieve, my record suggests the former would be more sensible.

| WOL again prove the Obafemi point on 11:28 - Jan 28 by A_Fans_Dad | Isn't everybody forgetting all the players that were not in favour that have been loaned, returned or sold? Most of whom were young, showed considerable skills and in some cases speed and goal scoring ability. None of which suited Martin at the time. |
Which ones? Whitakker, Joseph and the two Coopers spring immediately to mind. One of whom has significantly increased his value, another is now a first team regular and Brandon Cooper extended his contract here during Martins time. What happens with Kyle Joseph remains to be seen. It’s very, very seldom we let a player go permanently to a lower division and he ends up proving that decision wrong. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If that’s all I’ve got to go on I’ll bide my time. Fulton is playing some of the his best football since he’s been here and doesn’t appear unhappy at all. The same thing happened to Routledge under a couple of managers. I can’t recall anyone saying he’d fallen out with them

Where did I say Fulton was unhappy? I said he fell out with Fulton, which he did. Same goes for all 6 mentioned, those are the only ones I know of. No idea if there was similar with Burns, Williams, Joseph et al they were just shunned, hence I’m not counting them until I know for sure. But the 6 mentioned I know for sure, which is the third of a match day squad, 50% out those then refused to play for him. Unhealthy numbers and not normal as suggested.

Ok, so what constitutes falling out exactly? Does telling a player he’s not part of the plans and to find a new club count? Any player is going to be a bit put out there. Whittakers situation is quite rare. He’s going to be refusing to play for Swansea City if a minute on the pitch stops him going to Rangers under any manager.

Depends on the reason. If it’s done due to an argument then that’s a falling out. Notice I didn’t include Bennett who was told the same, but that was due to a contractual clause.

Well that’s fair enough. If you’re telling me he’s had arguments with those players in the past 18 months, I don’t doubt it. I bet there are more. I’d also bet there were plenty under Potter and Cooper. Certainly under Clement and Bradley. There was a player revolt against Michael Laudrup

Its hardly a new thing is it, Fergie regularly lost his shit with players and those players still love him to this day. He chucked a boot at Beckham which hit him in chops as well

Indeed but not just argument, arguments that removed 6 players from the side, half of which have refused to play for him. That didn’t happen under any previous manager, not even the famous Monk led revolt. It’s not normal.

I think you were asked earlier for a link, that didn’t happen because that particular link doesn’t exist, I’ll ask this time, where is the link that references players refusing to play for Swansea city or Russell Martin apart from those who wanted to leave the club for better money, or Paterson wanting better money in a contract ? There is absolutely nothing to reflect six players being removed from the side other than a ridiculous campaign from a handful of people who if they repeat the same thing long enough they actually start to believe it.

I was asked for a link to Martins tactics wasn't I? I didn’t understand the request at the time and I still don’t. There is no campaign, it’s literally the situation. There is a campaign to champion poor performances and management though in an attempt to deflect blame. There is no links to the ins and outs of the fall outs of any players, Pato, Obafemi or Piroe - but we all know they happened. There are no links to me informing the board of Wood starting the other day 4 days before the game either, plus the initial breaking of the news that Pato has been dropped from the squad the first time round, there was no links to that until it was common knowledge. There were no links when you said Cooper wanted to leave immediately after the play off final. If we are now saying nothing is true without links then we would retrospectively be here all day / these things are known and not lifted from a link to another source. He fell out with all 6 players listed. Obafemi refused to play, Whittaker refused to play and Pato refused to play, Piroe was stripped of the number 9 jersey and made to train on the beach on his own - those 4 are common knowledge. So I suppose you are querying Fulton who was told he would never play for the club again and Ogbeta who was also told he would never play for the club, ignored in all facets of the club and farmed out on loan? Will just have to take my word on those two I guess. [Post edited 29 Jan 2023 2:07]

Swansea City striker Michael Obafemi has joined Burnley on a loan deal with an option to buy, subject to EFL and international clearance. The 22-year-old Republic of Ireland international joins up with Vincent Kompany’s Clarets as they look to secure promotion to the Premier League. Obafemi initially moves to Turf Moor on loan for the remainder of the season, with the option available to make the move permanent for an undisclosed fee. So is it a loan with a guaranteed sale or just an option.

Are we serious? They aren’t going to want him if and when they get promoted. Did we want him out of the club that badly?
