Shame that its come to this, pity he couldn't have stayed at Plymouth and seen the season out and then come back, could have been an asset to us next season or if as seems likely kept his great form going and his value increasing.

Short term thinking by the Yanks again !

I’m unsure.
I’m still trying to work out if he has been given permission to talk to Rangers. But of the Swans get three million you can’t argue with that.

Surely he wouldn't be able to discuss terms without our permission?

It's a polite lie these days that players need permission to talk to other clubs. In the vast majority of cases personal terms are agreed long before the fee is. If they don't meet the player themselves it's all done via the agent.

It's a shame. If Whittaker thought he might have a fair chance here under RM perhaps he could have been pursuaded to stay.

No maybe not, its all ifs and but's I know, but "if" he had stayed there and added more goals to his tally which is likely, we may have doubled that or more again.

It's a joke really not as if we forced him to sign a 4 year contract

If we were a club with financial clout would stick all these super brats in the youth team and let them stew.

Has anyone considered the potential fact that now his stock is climbing little Swansea City isn't big enough for his ambitions and if he was made to stay this season we would have the same problem the next

He will have been sold on the vision that Rangers will be in Europe and challenging for trophies every season. If he looks really good, there is a chance that a Premier League team will pick him up.

With us, he is in a much tougher league with a team whose ambition is to try snd get into the playoffs and a tight wages structure. Much harder to look really good if you aren't winning almost all of the time playing weekends and midweek against tougher opponents. Also with no chance of European football or medals.

IMHO Whittaker needed a season playing regularly at a lower level to develop. Unfortunately his form at Plymouth has alerted Beale to his potential.

Whittaker could have developed with games here. And he'd probably have got them under another manager.

Madness to bring him back. He’d have had to do a lot in training to displace Piroe or Cullen up front or start ahead of Cooper and Ntcham.

If we’d left him at Plymouth, his value would very likely have increased and we could have sold him for more in the summer or kept him if we lost Piroe.

Could still have sold him while on loan if Rangers had come in with a massive bid, but I’m not sure £2-3m is in that bracket.

Let's not pretend that, current purple patch aside, Cullen had done anything in his entire Swans career to suggest that he deserved a place in the team ahead of Whittaker.

The fact that Cullen continually got more opportunities ahead of him despite doing significantly less than Whittaker did in the rare chances he got no doubt has informed a lot of Morgan's thinking in recent weeks.

We won't know whether another manager would have given him games or insisted on him being loaned out to get regular games and come back stronger.

You clearly feel he was ready for the first team at the start of the season, I didn't think he was and needed to get regular games which he was not guaranteed to get here at that time.

Was he coming back to play or to be sold? The answer to that question would tell a lot.

Sold absolutely for me, the Winter/Yanks had, had the nod no doubt about it.

Why would we put his current purple patch aside? We’re talking about whether Whittaker would oust him now, not two years ago.

Neither of them had done a lot in a Swansea shirt before this season. I think Whittaker has one league goal for us.

No, we're talking about why Whittaker was sent out on loan in the first place rather than given the chances that Cullen got. I'd have thought that the whole "Whittaker could have developed with games here" was a bit of a giveaway.

Whittaker had done well enough in cup games. To be dropped from the side and not even get off the bench the game after scoring a hat trick was a perfect example of how badly he's been managed.

That was one post that no one responded to.

Cooper didn’t fancy him, Martin didn’t fancy him, Both football professionals who saw him in training every day. People have been seriously swayed by a hat trick against a lower league team in a game no one cared about.

As for Cullen, my guess is we couldn’t source him a loan, or had already loaned out Whittaker and Joseph and wanted to keep some cover. I’m pretty sure he’d have gone if someone came in for him early.

Very unlikely he’d have developed here, just as Cullen hadn’t until very recently. He wouldn’t have displaced Piroe or Obafemi last season, Ayew or Lowe the season before.

This all day long. Cullen has been persistently given chances despite not deserving them. Whittaker got a hat trick and still couldn't get a chance but instead was loaned out. Ironically Cullen was available on loan but with little interest.

Of course he has, he's got the size the speed and the skill, he'll do well at Rangers, well I hope he does for his sake, not Rangers.

Whittaker is a good problem to have. He does not get on with Martin but they are both adults and both seem bright enough to navigate a way to work together.

After selling Obafemi, in an all but odd way, the club does not need to sell a player in top form and can sell him in the summer if needs be.

They can set a high price and put up a sign saying "no tyre kickers need apply £4m cash up front".

Martin needs to prove he can handle angry players and conniving agents.

This is becoming a familiar problem though isn’t it.
Not sure what’s going on behind the scenes but to me,loaning a player
like Obafemi to a rival championship club seems bizarre.
With Whittaker we have a proven goal scorer, and we,re letting him go
to Rangers while scrambling around in the hope of finding another one !

Bonkers……..

Martin wants his own particular players. Those who aren't on that list are of no use to him and he'll do whatever he can to make them feel unwelcome.

For all we've chased Ogbene the reality is we've either already got better players at the club, or have ignored and sent back loans who could have done the job instead.
