| Our players 20:47 - Mar 11 with 4993 views | builthjack | Many have said that we have a top 6 team. Never in a million years. How many, if we got promoted, would be able to cut it in the Premier league. One ? Two at most. Todays team for example - Fisher - League 1 player Latibeudiere - Bottom half Champioship Manning - Mid table Championship Cabango - Mid table Chapmpionship Wood - Mid Table Champioship Cooper Mid table Championship, will improve. Grimes - Top half Championship Sorinola - Bottom half Championship Jay Fulton - Top,half Championship Luke Cundle - Top half Championship Joel Piroe - Botton third Premier/ top third Championship If anyone thinks they are better than that say so. I am basing it on this seasons performances. I have only attended 16 games this season but have seen enough to justify the above. We have a team of bang average players. We have sold everyone worth anything, Obafemi and Piroe will be next, if the owners get £6 - £8 million for the pair they will be happy. A bleak future awaits. | |

No one at the time thought he would go onto manager the number 1 ranked team in world football or be heavily linked with the Barcelona job. The best option is to bring in someone and give them a chance to see what they are working with in competitive matches |
The reason that Martin is still here and no one brought in is because they don't see relegation as a real threat. They will wait until the summer and the main concern will be not paying off Martin rather than being proactive. You can already see the path this is going.

That was the reason I added Oko Flex into that mix, i thought that between him and Obafemi we would have a threatening amount of pace in the team. It's my opinion that a lack of pace and width has caused our problems this season, we are a very easy side to play against once the defensive lines have been set and we all too often let teams regroup.

Now it's those same players are not good enough. When are some people going to wake up and see it's down to Martin?

Does Martin tell players to pass it straight to the opposition? No Does he tell them to shy out of tackles? No Does he tell them to cross it 3 or 4 foot high? No Does he tell them to stay with feet on the ground to try and win headers? No Does he tell them to shoot wide when a simple tap in will do ? No I could go on. That’s all down to the players. He is using awful tactics, no wingers, 5 at the back when 4 would be better.Thats all his fault. Passing for passing sake. His fault. Poor substitutions. His fault. The players have to take some responsibility. If you think not then the next Manager will take us into the top 6 with these players. It won’t happen.

its also down to coaching told not to shoot from long range players confidence is shot...having to play against instinct , being played out of position...a better manager/coach would do more fo rthe squad. It seems super Russ knew better than Klopp Rhys Williams came here with more experience then Geuhi when he came here have had Premier League and champions League games all played on the lefy hasnd side of defence yet Martin chose to play him on the Right hand side with Cabango a natural right footer on the left. If this is the sort of thing that goes on no wonder our players are as they are

An example against areading at home last season Naughton faced with a simple tap into touch elected to back heel the ball behind him which was intercepted leading to a Reading goal ....all about instructions to retain possession rather than put the ball safe and reset our squad which achieved promotion to the PL last time was not bursting with quality but had confidence and was well coached

You do realise that back heeling the ball to the opposition isn't keeping possession don't you!? I don't think what you describe, passing to the opposition is encouraged..........its all down to delivery and that goes in both coaching and what's done on the pitch. It looks like Martins time is close but now people are calling for the change......it now becomes a stupid thing to get rid of him now. I am starting to ask the question, do people just post things to create an argument on here!? I can't fathom people's thinking on here and I will be damned shocked if some will ever admit their wrong. Either way, it appears we have some right beauts who will just obsessively go to any lengths to create havoc on this forum.

I agree now is not the time t sack Martin lets wait until the end of the season but now it seems the players are being targeted despite Martins failures which have been evident for the majority of his tenure., Fisher, Wood ,Paterson,Sorinola, and Darling who spends his time on the bench all the choice of our manager....Lati is sub standard yet he is continously selected by the manage Yet it is now fashionable to blame the quality of the players now finally the fan boys can see they have lost the arguuement in support of Ruus

Apologies, my last message was poorly delivered in regards to what should be done with Martin. I would rather we be proactive and get it done now, get someone in until the end of the season and work hard on getting a new man in, a new guy raring to go once that final whistle of the last game is blown. As its going now, we will spend a good chunk of the summer playing silly beggers.....as the yanks have form on doing.

I think you are right in that Martin will stay till the summer, but I think it might be the wrong call. If things continue to go as badly as they are, I would imagine even with Martin go that it might have such a negative effect it would be a hangover going into next season. Once you get stuck in the rut it is remarkably hard to get out of it.

Compared with Rodon at the same age Cabango is miles better … Rodon - 22 9 months 52 senior appearances 0 goals 1 assist Cabango- 22 10 months 186 senior appearances 7 goals 3 assists Independent rating career average both on 6.79 but Rodon played in his preferred position with strong and experienced players alongside and decent goalkeepers (admittedly some games at a higher level). Cabango rarely plays in his preferred position and has, for some time, been the 'senior' player in the defence. In terms of player involvement (stats too detailed to summarise) Cabango is getting through far more work than Rodon, probably because of the overall team performance. Ashley Williams was still playing League 2 at that age. Wood, who I didn’t rate particularly, has improved and will probably be a better player than either home product when he approaches 23. All our players are suffering from being coached by Martin. As for watching the players, I do and having played in defence for 15 season season back in the day I appreciate how much work individual players get through and the frustrations they must feel in this set up. (Senior leagues fro 13 up to semi-pro while holding down a full time job). So 'mush' I really do have some insight. [Post edited 12 Mar 2023 9:55]

Do you actually go & watch any games live ? Yesterday in 1 v 1 situations Cabango got done for pace 4 times. Twice by no 3 (Giles), twice by no 11 (Ramsey). I don’t recall Rodon getting done for pace time after time. 4 of Cabangos passes yesterday went dead - either straight in to touch or out of play He also had 3 passes intercepted by the opposition - about average for every game that he plays. I don’t recall Rodon making the same mistakes game after game after game. He may be ‘getting through the work’ by your senior league or semi-pro standards but Championship standard … Nah Maybe in the summer Spurs will come in for him & bail us out … don’t hold your breath Wood is no better & don’t even get me started on Latibeaudiere, who should have been hooked immediately after giving away a needless penalty in his petulance. As poor as Martin is as a coach, players making the same basic mistakes game after game after game cannot all be down to the coach

Some of these players have gone backwards at an alarming rate though. Cabango is making errors that he just wasn’t making 18 months ago. Piroe has been so hot and cold and we know he’s quality. Also what’s happened to Naughts?

Players who don't do what Russy wants tend to end up as persona non grata.

A competent manager would not have allowed our squad to be weakened because of loan recalls and poodies. A squad capable of the results in September and October don’t become a squad that collapses after the World Cup without reason.

We should at least be in a shout of finishing in the playoffs, yet we are languishing as outside relegation candidates. Luton and Millwall are up there with arguably much worse players than ourselves.

That’s an interesting viewpoint. Genuine question, what is it exactly that you see in our squad that is better than say Millwall or Luton ? It is more likely that our good run earlier in the season was a fluke, down to luck or just poor displays by the opposition rather than what so many believe is our level. The league table doesn’t lie at this stage of the season. We have a poor squad by Championship standards & a coach who is getting it wrong just about every week. Last season we had 2 good runs of results & finished bottom half. We lack consistency because we are just not good enough across the board. The only consistency that we have is giving away soft goals by poor defending & flawed game plans
