Full details here.

Key Swansea City player to leave this week ( PA ) 30th Jul 2023 20:17
Olivier Ntcham seems destined to leave Swansea city this week for Samsunspor in Turkey on Tuesday evening having played his last game for the Swans at Reading on Saturday. In what is clearly an agent generated story we remain on the sidelines regards this. However, this is the latest. 1

No idea? Well we all have different opinions eh. Still, I'd keep Ntcham over Paterson because Ntcham is a better player and he hasn't caused any grief, as far as I know.

and Ntcham has a better goal celebration 👍

To be honest, I'd get rid of Paterson. he's been so patchy since his little spat I think we're better off without. I'd have used his wages to offer Ntcham an increase.

Cooper will have a role to play but in terms of natural ability he's streets behind Oli. For me, until newer additions have proven themselves, Ntcham is second only to Piroe in terms of the threat he offers us going forward.

Really quite surprised to see Jasper, about as good a judge of a player as you can get in these parts be so dismissive of him. I think we'd do very well indeed to find an adequate replacement, especially now that he's not having to work his way in from out wide.

He was good alongside Grimes as I've said, but offers little further forward as a 10 and there were always questions about his fitness (averaged only 50 minutes a game since arriving). There's a risk that a static Ntcham-Grimes-Fulton midfield has too many cooks in that central area when what we'll need is someone up and beyond the strikers.

Duff's system will need the outside central mids to move into wide spaces behind the wingbacks just like Martin's did. We saw that in the friendlies with Key always pushing high in line with the strikers.

I think it's pretty clear that the frequent withdrawal of him around the hour mark was a deliberate tactic of Martin's and had little to do with his stamina. The games he did complete the full 90 he wasn't off the pace at all.

Whether or not you consider his best football was played "alongside" Grimes would depend on whether you consider that his starting or end position. He did occasionally drop deep for the ball but I would in no way consider him to be a deep midfielder when he did most of his damage in the final third.

If anything he was a throwback to the JdG type of central midfielder capable of dropping deep and attacking the space where it appeared, a skill we are sorely lacking without him. Static is the absolute last tag I'd stick on him.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

V Reading, was it Key or Ntcham that ho had the most impact?
Ntcham for me every day of the week.
Quick o& thought and execution and very intelligent.

Definitely not a deep.lyimg midfielder.

Our best attacking option, massive loss if he goes.

And yet we were so slow getting the ball up to him or too slow to support him for most of last season when we did the team functioned better but you need young pacy legs around him, same could be said for Piroe and Obefemi and in previous seasons Ayew, Lowe and a number of forwards we have left isolated, when we got quick ball and were able to get support to them they all looked better players and scored goals, will our forwards get the right support this season remains to be seen.

Massive loss indeed. He showed what he could do late on last season when played in his best position.

With the likes of midfielders Grimes, Allen, Fulton who can barely muster 1 or 2 goals per season between them our very few attacking threats are about to be significantly dented. If people are seeing Cooper or Paterson as the answer to midfield goal threat options then prepare to be disappointed.

Once again the lack of ambition is becoming clearer. Whenever the sight of $$$$ are an option the owners rarely fail in letting the fans or manager down

Nothing to do with lack of ambition. Ntcham doesn’t fit Duff's agricultural approach.
If he isn’t in the plan and the player wants away the club has no choice but to sell before his contract runs out.

So after x amount of friendlies in which many formations /players have been utilised for x minutes , you've decided that Duffs approach is agricultural" an interesting description which is borne out by what exactly ?. He's never indicated publicly that he wants away so again how do you know that's what he wants ,if it's true then yes I agree sell him but he will be missed imo

I was looking forward to the season too.
I told myself it wouldn’t last
Here is a classic example of another skilful ,effective player ruined by the outgoing coach, one who was often played outside his most comfortable position.
You don’t know what you got till it’s gone .

IMO its purely a financial decision, a couple of million in the bank and twenty odd grand a week off the wages, with a player who could walk away in 12 months. We were never going to offer him the same wages or more to extend.

So we are expecting Piroe to be the next player to go along with Ntcham, lost Manning, Whittaker, Downes whose is going to be next, Wood?
We should be building towards the future instilling in the club a belief we are good enough to progress and doing it as part of a team.
Sound very naive I know but continually selling off the family silver because "needs must" isn't to helping, neither is the manager and player merry go round, finding good players and not tieing them down and reaping the long term rewards for the club.
We have come down from the Premiership and had to cut our cloth but now must be the time for ambition to raise it's head again?
We have brought signing in with senior experience with an urge to play at higher level supplemented with some younger one's from last year who have progressed having gained experience.
Duff has a good amount of managerial experience hope he can recognise some quality players who can break through to the senior ranks, yes we have lost players but is the tide turning?

Good points well made, but I think this summer is a restructuring window where we build for the future. Restructure the finances by clearing out those who don't feature in future plans and move on those that it doesn't make financial sense to keep. Bring in those who hopefully will help us move forward.
