This P Rick was interviewed before the game and said they are sticking to their plan. He's a right arrogant b@stard.

There needs to be a louder response by people to this or regional / top class rugby will be lost forever from the second city and its environs.

I saw it and thought the same.

It's become apparent that the change is top down based on financial constraints. It's obvious that there has not been involvement in developing a solution from the grass roots and there is a complete lack of design principles in identifying the best way forward.

What is a design principle, it's a standard or value that is important for success, to those involved and to the wider organisation and stakeholders. Here are examples of obvious ones for Welsh rugby, on which they are failing.

The importance of rugby to the whole nation has to be recognised and encouraged as a result of the new solution, no one should feel excluded.
The solution must enable many people to play rugby at all levels, wider pyramids enable you to build higher.

It's poorly managed and will lead to poor delivery.

Beard should never have started. He’s always last at the ruck…when we patently have the ball and stands there doing nothing when he should be at the side ready to receive. We commit six players against two or three opposition players at every frigging ruck then wonder why we concede a try when we inevitably kick the ball away.
Today if we played to a game plan by kicking it went tits up after 10 minutes yet we continued to carry on. If it wasn’t the game plan then our on field players are unfit to call themselves professional.
Off field we are a shambles…on field we are a shambles epitomised by Warburton in commentary saying the players don’t want to hear the negatives of that performance only the positives. That’s pathetic.

I'm looking forward to the day and the game, I'm giving up fishing on the last day of the river coarse fishing season on the Wye at Hereford to go, changed my plans to go up at the end of this month now instead.

Fair point.

I watch a fair bit of Super Rugby Cymru which is the level below the Regional game. The tournament was created 2 seasons ago and the focus is supposed to be on developing younger players (from academies and fringe players etc) so that they can make the step up to the Regional game. The clubs in the Ospreys region embraced the concept and have squads packed with youngsters, unfortunately that’s not the case across the board.
Aberavon, Swansea and Bridgend have all had a few tough seasons but that’s to be expected when you’ve got teams of youngsters playing against teams of old heads and teams consolidated with full time professionals. Swansea have by far the lions share of Ospreys youngsters and players, Bridgend and Aberavon have around 5 each.

Instead of mandating that match squads have fixed numbers for of younger players, a ceiling on the number of professionals in a team etc etc there’s no guidance or restrictions whatsoever, so we’re seeing mismatches where teams of youngsters are getting hammered by teams of old heads - how is that developing younger players? By all means have a blended approach where younger players are exposed to old heads, but it has to be balanced.

I genuinely believe that a having a Reddin type character in charge of performance is sensible, but that person needs to have a direct input and be able to influence individual performance at the Regions. Budgets are an issue, but I think one of the reasons the Welsh performance has been so poor is because of the level of coaching in our Regional game. If we had top top coaches at the Regions driving up standards, the players would perform better at that level and that would transfer to the international stage.

As mentioned, I wrote to Tonia and her response is below:

Dear Tim,

Thank you for contacting me about the WRU’s proposals and the future of the Ospreys. I fully understand why supporters feel anger and disbelief.

I have deliberately chosen not to speak publicly on the WRU’s cost‑cutting proposals because my focus has been on contributing meaningfully behind the scenes, where I believe I can have the greatest impact.

On 21 January, I supported the Welsh Affairs Select Committee at its hearing on this issue. The Committee heard from supporters’ representatives as well as the WRU’s Chair and Chief Executive, and I ensured I engaged with them directly. It is clear that the proposal to cut a professional team has alienated fans and widened the divide between the WRU and its supporters.

Only by working together can Welsh rugby secure a sustainable long‑term future. Allowing this situation to escalate risks tearing the Welsh rugby community apart. I recognise that the WRU faces serious financial pressures, with significant debts and insufficient funds in the system, and that ultimately the WRU and Y11 will have to make a commercial decision. However, the uncertainty facing Ospreys fans, players and staff is unacceptable, and I have urged the WRU to improve its communication dramatically.

It is right that Swansea Council Leader Rob Stewart and Torsten Bell MP, whose constituency includes St Helens and the Swansea.com Stadium, lead the public‑facing campaign. I support their efforts and will continue to work constructively where I can be most effective.

Thank you again for writing. I will continue to do all I can to ensure supporters’ voices are heard at this critical moment.

Yours sincerely,

Tonia

Financial pressures.

Why is there not enough money for four regions in Wales when there is in Ireland with a smaller budget? Bad management?

I supported the Welsh Affairs Select Committee at its hearing on this issue.

Why did she not attend the public meeting between Swansea council and the Ospreys supporters. Stephen Kinnock and Torsten Bell were in attendance.

I have deliberately chosen not to speak publicly on the WRU’s cost‑cutting proposals because my focus has been on contributing meaningfully behind the scenes, where I believe I can have the greatest impact.

However, the uncertainty facing Ospreys fans, players and staff is unacceptable, and I have urged the WRU to improve its communication dramatically.

Does she not understand that working behind the scenes and not publicly communicating with supporters she is only adding to the lack of communication she is asking the WRU to improve.

She is taking Osprey and rugby supporters in general as idiots. At least she will be gone at the next election because she is not serving the majority of her constituents.

Swansea Council has applied for a High Court injunction to halt the proposed deal between the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and Ospreys owners Y11 Sport and Media to buy rivals Cardiff.

I hope they have a case here and not just going through the motions. I applaud the council for doing this though.

The threat of an injunction has made the WRU take action before it was due to be heard today.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/

Whatever the long term solution is, I think any credibility Y11 had with Osprey supporters, Swansea Council and the Swansea public in general has gone. Is there any way back if the WRU withdraw from the Cardiff deal with Y11 for whatever reason now pressure is being applied.
