The people who don’t understand this are generally the people who used to slaughter Naughton every time he got left two on one by our more maverick wingers

Think a number of us appreciated Naughton's qualities but understood some of his weaknesses, both got amplified with age, in the end it was time for us to ensure we had an adequate replacement. As for Ronald after his intial promising start he floundered but so did the majority of the team, this season throw in all rhe new inexperienced players, at Championship level the obvious lack of understanding between Key and Ronald both have been questioned as to their selection. Ronald is our only winger as such, Inoussa after a good start has struggled and has now been hindered by injury very much like Eom last season and this season, Widell had looked to be getting up to speed and causing defences problems while being an asset in defensive terms able to both get us out of trouble and cause trouble with his pace and skill but progress hindered again by injury? Ronald does look for Vipotnik during attacks and Vipotnik looks for him both assisting in the others goals. When you have partnerships that get us goals in open play why would you try and break partnerships if they work, similarly Galbraith playing on the front foot provides Ronald and Vipotnik both with quick ball possession which they have previously been starved of? A number did, but a number would consistently blame him when the likes of Montero did next to no defensive work and left him exposed. Our right back options are Galbraith who isn’t a right back, Key who is out of form and Ward who is coming towards the end of his career. Whichever one we play there needs a winger who can protect him out. I can see why Ronald frustrates, but I can also see why he starts every game.

If he can improve his attacking play he's a PL player. Still only 24 so no reason why he can't

Yet those who are knowledgeable on football and get paid for it pick him. I wonder who is the best judge. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I’m Sure Bobby Wales could improve too Difference is he’s been buggered off whilst Ronald gets every chance There again he’s covering for our pack of right back The much loved Key Is unplayable unless we’re desperate Ward is past it Bristol will can concentrate their efforts on our right hand side They will show no sentiment ? Unlike our fans Meanwhile the magnificent Stamonic will be replaced by club legend Jay Fulton Let’s see what happens Come on Jay

Not a chance, he's too slow for a start. Cant use is left foot, his right foot isn't much better. If he's good defensively then play him at RB. But as a RW he is shocking

2nd top goalscorer this season. 2nd for assists this season. Not those pesky facts again.
| Ronald Pereira Martins on 19:44 - Feb 18 with 696 views | GVJack | He's in the game a lot, as up to now we have mainly focussed attack down the right. That workload could/should be shared out a bit more evenly now with another pacey wingers in Nunes now on the books so that may improve his quality a bit He certainly needs to work on his "end product" but he's a grafter and gives his all for the cause. Goes down like he's been shot at every chance though which is frustrating as I don't think he's won a penalty all season! | | | |
| Ronald Pereira Martins on 20:00 - Feb 18 with 671 views | swancity | You need to be watching games live if you’re going to slag off players as a lot of the work done is off the ball and therefore not on camera. A player will only touch a ball for 3/4 minutes in a game if he’s lucky so you can clearly see that almost all of their work is off the ball stuff. Ronald can frustrate as he can be inconsistent with his end product but if he was the complete and world class player he’d be worth £100m plus and playing at Man City or Arsenal. He’s doing ok and I like his work rate and passion. If he can be more composed in those crucial moments especially with decision making he could make it at a higher level. As for Onehunglow: stick to rugby although on second thoughts your knowledge of that is very limited too. Empty vessels make the most noise as they say … | |

The ‘off the ball’ part is going to be way beyond one or two. Sensible post though

Particularly when Galbraith picks up the ball and carries it through midfield and Ronald slots in as right back cover.

It should have been the same with Key getting forward but the understanding or communication between them has been shocking. Galbraith has been able to intercept passes to the wingers because he has got tighter to mark the wingers, it was the same with Tymon who has improved under Matos hopefully the same can happen with Key but breaking old habits or learning from coaching can be hard for some. May be a problem for Key knowing that Cabango and Burgess need cover from quick attacks and think he must be in a position to cover and leaves the winger free, Tymon did, You have to let the midfield do their job while as a fullback you do your primary role properly.

we haven't conceded a goal in 2026 with Josh Key at full back. He's playing very well but haters hate. It's become a fashion.

Oh come on. Saying he’s out of form isn’t hating. The Josh Key of the last couple of seasons would be one of the first names on my team sheet. You’re right, we haven’t conceded with him on the pitch in 2026, unless you count the goal West Brom scored and don’t factor in he’s played 122 minutes, one was a start where he came off at half time and of the four others, he came on for Ronald with a full back behind him in three of them. If he was at his best, which is very, very good IMO, we wouldn’t be taking our best player out of midfield to cover right back. I hope he gets there soon, because on form, he’s a better RB than Galbraith and our midfield would be better with Galbraith in it

I think a reasonable argument with facts has been put forward against your rant by various posters. "Can’t shoot straight Can’t cross a ball Allegedly tracks back and tackles ! He is absolutely shite" Would you care to elaborate and state examples to back up your claim, possibly saying who in the team is better. Remembering Ronald is our 2nd top goalscorer and 2nd for assists. No hate there just asking you to elaborate on your opinion of Ronald on and off the ball including work rate and including facts.

This should be kept to the non football board. I take it you have no opinion with substance and facts to back up your view of Ronald.

Of course you can comment on what you see but you miss so much, the cameras do not pan out to the bigger picture off the ball very often. I know if I watch a game on TV my opinion is often different to friends there after discussion I understand why. Particularly why certain players didn't do certain things and it often comes down to simple things like marking space and creating it by pulling players about. It changes game by game depending on the opposition strengths and weaknesses, often we don't see this on TV.
