| Yacine Titraoui on 15:41 - Jul 29 by Whiterockin | This time last season the majority of us were exited at the new signings. Two months later we were in a relegation battle, temper any optimism. |
Sheenhan trying to accommodate far too many new inexperienced players and fiddling with the line ups, he wasn't helped by the loss of Inoussa, we saw Widdel wasn't up to Championship speed, we never recovered from the loss of players at the end of the previous season. [Post edited 29 Jul 16:34]

IMO, 1) Inoussa wasn't consistent enough; we give Ronald a lot of criticism, and Eom on more than just an occasion, but Inoussa we reserved a lot of judgment. He got hurt, yes, but he was inconsistent; 2) It seemed that Sheehan didn't take charge and allowed his assistant to have too much sway in coaching and strategy; 3) Sheehan never found his ideal lineup but good coaches figure this out. That's why they're good!; 4) Key's severe performance drop-off, which forced Galbraith to play RB really caused problems & affected overall midfield play, coupled with the bad luck OG's from Burgess, led to an overall pessimistic attitude by players and fans; 5) Finally, not playing Vip up top all the time, every game was a 20/20 hindsight mistake. Sheehan started Cullen in many games with Vip on the bench at the beginning of the season. BIG MISTAKE! I was one of those last year excited about all the new signings and their supposed talent. Sometimes managers need time to figure out who's up for taking it to the next level and who's not. We've had lots of duds who haven't been able to but I think Matos is one of those who can figure it out.

I saw enough of Innousa to realise his speed of thought and accuracy with his final ball was exceptional. Whether he is as good as the newcomers is another question but he is in no way as bad as some on here are painting him (and other forums too).

I agree with this. His problem imo is that he didn't appear to have any confidence. I remember when he scored one particular goal his body language afterwards was odd. He didn't really do anything. He didn't even celebrate. Very odd. Hopefully now he's had time to settle and with good coaching he'll be like a new signing. I hope.
| Yacine Titraoui on 09:49 - Jul 30 with 3845 views | Dr_Winston | The biggest problem is that he needed the ball passed to him far more quickly than we generally did before he got injured. It's not a coincidence that his best performance for is came against Man City in the cup, which was probably the only time in the Sheehan era where we showed no fear and tried to get at the opposing team. To a certain extent this affected all our wide players last season, but him most of all. | |

Think Inoussa will need a bit of nurturing to build his confidence , hope he can shake off his injury issues. Matos does seem to have a plan B sometimes those plans will work other times maybe not. Did we see progress last season, I though so, which was that down to his coaching and hopefully he can build the squad into a stronger unit.

We have to give our wide players more time and space to operate. Taking forever to get the ball forward just leads to them having to wriggle through packed/congested defences and then the inevitable backwards passing as we try to find openings another way.

It’s so obvious and is still happening to a lesser extent maybe with Matos. Ronald (and others) can't operate like that but give him a quick ball to run onto in space we may see a better player. If he’s still here but even if not, we must be quicker going forward and cut out this across the back line passing which has been part of our game for far too long now.

I agree. Being from North Carolina where basketball is often considered "king", the tactic of a "give and go" pass followed with a quick "back door" pass back to the original passer is often employed by the likes of Duke Univ and Univ of North Carolina basketball programs. Such a simple play but it takes a lot of practice, timing, skill and courage to make the proper pass, even more so in soccer. How many times have we seen the first pass by a quick winger, who then runs toward the goal that often is seen open but the pass recipient decides to re-cycle the ball backwards or sidewards. Very frustrating for wingers. That pass recipient has to have the skill and fortitude to make that pass back to the winger.

If you can switch side going across the back quickly then it is not a bad tactic to use as the ball can travel faster than the opposition can adjust their position, that is why the long cross field ballif played accurately can be so effective. But have we been able to move the ball effectively across the backline. I said before about fullbacks being too close to wingers a long ball down the wing to feet from a fullback can mean a fullback can then come onto a wall pass at pace to catch defenders out while losing players who don't track back, the only issue then is ensuring cover for the fullbacks forward runs

There’s a load of things that could say the Swansea were. Even with Jamestown putting him forwards as a player of interest. I would say the fact proper sources are stating he doesn’t fancy the drop down tells us there must have been to some extent or another or he wouldn’t have said it ? 🤷🏻♂️

The Portuguese bloke comes across as a bit more realistic in my opinion
