Taking your own life after saying a few porkies is tragic and was probably driven by worldwide scrutiny and accusations which he could not handle in his current state .
Some of my CV reports have lets say over stated my achievements but never lied just flowered them out a bit .
Why did Cambridge Dons and their so called thorough background checks and failings let this fella into a role he was so out of his depth in .
Guy has lost his life which is tragic , but maybe Cambridge should take a look at themselves and look at their methods of fast tracking the elite obviously not ready or prepared .
Do have some sympathy for him though , wrong person in the wrong place . |

Sad. A lot of people should be considering their conduct in the case, especially those who pushed an obviously mentally ill liar into positions he should never have been into because they were too cowardly to question some of his claims. |

It’s a horrible situation and it’s right that he should never have been in that position in the first place.
However, it’s worth noting that only 1% of professors in UK universities are black, so the idea that these places are all a DEI stitch up and part of a conspiracy is a massive exaggeration.

I can't go into detail but the pattern of appointments at a university near many of us has changed markedly in recent years.
Given the understandable sympathy for the family following Arday's death, there have been claims by some that his misdeeds were no worse than those of many white academics. It may be hard for some, who think that a bit of embellishment of CVs does no harm, to understand how important professional integrity is for key facets of academic work such as research and publishing. I see online that many are saying that John Moores University cleared Arday of misconduct over his PhD and that should be the end of the story, but I don't think many insiders believe that. For people who want more detail about what was involved look at this Turnitin report produced by an academic who ran the thesis through plagiarism-detection software.

Then there is the issue of borrowed or re-edited extracts from interviews attributed to different research participants in different journal articles, which Nathan Cofnas and others have pointed to on various social media platforms. Data fabrication is a very serious sin for a researcher.
Overall, my feeling is that we should feel sympathy, while not forgetting that there was indeed strong evidence of academic misconduct.

It was actually the Times Higher Education that was the first to take an interest in the case back in 2023 before being frightened off as per the OP and the Carter-Ruck letter. Then when the case was again in the news, it was revelations in the Guardian that finally pushed Cambridge to announce an inquiry, Now the persons who enabled this tragedy blame the right-wing press. | | | |

The threat of the racism card being played at any time and in an attempt for a high profile position and that application failing will make folk fearful job decision making .
The tick box exercise of appeasing candidates will never end as we are now .
The Beeb seem to be the main culprits in their PC guidlines for recruitment and not upsetting their necessary staff intake .

Not sure about the black parents comment. What I do know is that we had A level results last week and GSCEs on Thursday. With the exception of the Black Caribbean group ( a small subsection of the black community), when the dust has settled, guess which ethnic group will be at the bottom? I’m pretty sure it’ll be white disadvantaged kids.
In a little while we’ll have all the data and there will be two tables that group will be top of. Suspensions and Absence.
I don’t think the parent argument stack up as this has been the case for ever.
Keep and eye out for the stories of the top performing state schools and see what so many of them have in common. | | | |

The intensity of the spotlight now needs bead down onto those who enabled him, who approved/gave/awarded him with a PhD, who gave him the job at Cambridge, who promoted him. The media spotlight needs to shine on these folks and ask them how and why.
