| Recent car deaths on 18:48 - Aug 23 by trampie | There we are you agree with me then that in some circumstances the police should not do car chases. It depends on the seriousness of the crime, the danger to the public, chasing somebody for stealing a loaf of bread when it becomes obvious they won't stop and it's school closing time in a built up area is not a good idea imo. |
Don’t try and claim you’ve won this argument🤣🤣. You said ‘in lots of cases’. I’m saying in very few where risks are assessed by the supervising inspector from information by the officers in pursuit. A complete no-no is down the wrong way if a motorway which is why many trying to get away choose that option. You were intimating that they should hardly do it at all as it too dangerous whereas by not doing it I’ll argue that it is more dangerous and sets a precedent that will lead to much more serious injuries or deaths in time.

Oh no the police swear an oath they are well reimbursed to do their job they can chase the baddies no problem there (dont want them in the canteen all shift), commonsense needs to be used when to chase and when not to, I would hope that due to the many instances of the public being killed in the past that the police have now learnt to be more aware of the dangers to the general public when deciding what course of action to take.

| Recent car deaths on 18:03 - Aug 23 by trampie | The point has gone straight over your head, sometimes it's just not worth chasing due to the danger to the public, it may well be they went down a slip road the wrong way and at that point the police decided not to chase which would be fair enough, but as a generalisation sometimes it's just not worth it, I would expect the police to have an experienced senior person in the office to give the order not to chase if they deem it's not worth it, in lots of cases quite possibly it would make no difference to the outcome but in some cases it might make a difference. |
You made your point pretty clear to all , you blamed the police even though you have no idea whether the police were pursuing them and if they were how did they manage to collide head on . You made random comments about other incidents which had occurred and seemingly added two & two together but made 5. You’ve blamed the police for the acts of others , disgusting comments even by your standards .

The general public even these times still have a moral compass , knowing whats right and wrong and those two coppers shouldn't have died , neither should those ladies and child in Ireland have been involved in the criminal acts of others and people reconise that .There's always hope , its all we have .

When we have people driving at high speed endangering the general public and down the wrong side of dual carriageways, I would like the police to take action and commend the police for doing so.

You seem to have a certain amount of contempt for the police. Been involved on the wrong side maybe? But to address yet another of your very weak points, there may have been instances where innocents have been killed due to police chases, but not ‘many’ as you suggest. That same word could be used for numbers hurt, maimed or killed if no action was taken at all. Stop with your nonsense.

No contempt for the police from me, I have family who are high ranking police officers, their own unmarked police car (with lights and sirens) etc the other officers call them 'Ma'am'. I don't put people on a pedestal for doing a paid job, whether that is being a soldier, vicar, doctor, police or teacher, there are good people in all professions but there are also not so good as well.

| Recent car deaths on 17:15 - Aug 23 by trampie | Police should not chase people in cars that are showing no sign of stopping in lots of circumstances (going throw built up areas etc), not referring to this recent tragedy as we don't know what happened yet but in general it's been a bug bear of mine for years, it's not worth it, lots of innocent people have been killed and not just by the people being chased either. I said to the wife early on today that it would seem like a bit of a swizz if the police chase had been called off something like 2 minutes before the crash, now its been reported they are claiming they called it off 10 seconds before the crash, I'm not disputing that but it would only be a technicality if true, 10 seconds mind you, I'm not a fan of police chasing not stopping cars is it worth it if its not murder or terrorism when they will probably catch them anyway via the registration and cameras, many years ago I remember reading if I recall a mother and baby in a pram killed in the West Midlands by a police car chasing somebody and I think the crime was stealing a loaf of bread or something relatively minor. |
You haven't thought about this, you seem to advocate having cars driving at high speed through build up areas without any restraint where there are going to be large numbers of the general public.

Perhaps the reason why some police call off chases is in the hope that the ones doing the speeding in built up areas will then stop speeding if they are not being chased.

Joining a motorway to deliberately enter the opposite carriageway is having blatant disregard for the safety of all road users in the vicinity. For me the police have a duty to protect and somehow warn oncoming traffic of the immediate danger to thier life. The pursuit drivers train for all scenarios. Imagine a 52 seater coach full of school children turns over avoiding some lunatic as no traffic cars had followed the police would then be blamed for not doing their job. They can't win.awful decision for someone having to make. These clowns drive like maniacs in built up areas because they know the police will stop the pursuit. They must continue to follow through built up areas otherwise there is no deterrent as towns and cities across the UK will become race tracks again like the joyriding days of the 80s and 90s. My heart goes out to you knowing you taken responsibility for such high pressure decisions .

When you make decisions like that , normally it’s fine Do you authorise a pursuit when kids leaving school in the area However things go tots up and you are targeted as more senior officers will not back you up and sacrifice you I authorised a helicopter on one occasion for a missing child then two weeks later got the bill and asked to justify decision That was 30 yrs ago so it’s not new

As one who doesn't take drugs and will consume zero alcohol when driving that is too harsh. As the law stands you can have a certain amount of alcohol in your blood and be legal to drive, to have a lifetime ban for being marginally over is just stupid.

It’s stupidity to believe any alcohol doesn’t affect driving ability The limit is the limit Marginally over matters not ,it’s over People simply have to get real and consider when they are to get into a vehicle It’s stupid to allow people to be at risk from drivers even marginally affected by drink or drugs It’s stupid to believe the general public are sensible in general Its stupid to believe that we have deterrents in this country We either front up or suffer consequences Stupidity isn’t believing different to you

I would say there needs to be degrees of punishment. Take it to the extreme, you kill someone and there are several degrees of punishment including murder and manslaughter. You can not be just over the limit do no harm to anybody or anything and get a life ban. Sometimes you need to think before you post or you will be rightly ridiculed.

Not just stupid but impossible. Consuming anything with high levels ethanol can give you an above zero result - some mouthwashes, asthma inhalers, highly fermented bread, baking extracts etc.

Not it’s not stupid or impossible Maybe let’s stick to the 35 limit People should have self discipline and monitor themselves How do Chechia Hungary Slovakia folk manage where limit is zero and also Germany and Switzerland where limit is zero for novice drivers and 0.05 % for experienced drivers They have asthma suffers too,as does most of South America where limit is zero Zero tolerance would save lives As for those who can’t face not drinking a day before a journey then change your life We clearly make excuses for what is difficult in life We have given up We have problems which can be addressed Everything is possible with the right mindset Our mindset ,here’s an example ,MP for Redcar actually eulogising and shedding tears for those rats who killed two police officers who weren’t even “ pursuing “ them as they were finishing their shift Then the Greens who want to take away Pepper Sprays and Tazers This is our mindset in this country Stupid isn’t it [Post edited 25 Aug 17:45]

My son in law is asthmatic He’s taken several breath tests ( within the job) Zero How do people manage on those countries I’ve mentioned Most asthma inhalers are alcohol free, you’ve not mentioned that The minute particles of ethanol stay within the mouth and would not reach the blood stream for intoximter purposes Clearly we have a alcohol culture in this culture People demand the right to have drinks on a plane when clearly already imbibed We excuse bad behaviour because of drink We think we’re ok after one drink to drive We simply cannot control this and look for any excuses not to brutalise drink and doped drivers . Whom you’ve not mentioned Think I’m done here Take care and hope drunk drivers stay out of your way

Those things I mentioned show up in breath tests but not the bloodstream. In those countries they tend to take in those who fail breath tests to have their blood taken, show 0 then are released. Bit of a palaver for someone who had eaten a cup cake with vanilla extract in it.

Maybe Dublin was a case of nonsense tik tok likes or other online bravado but the other incident in Middlesborough seems to being in a different Police investigation . Lot of outsiders now involved in Police enquires including one of the deads fathers house being targeted in a ram raid .
