Wasted Wind Energy - Utter Madness 19:48 - Sep 30 with 3761 viewsJACKMANANDBOY

Apparently we are in the habit of building wind farms without any connection to the grid and paying for the electricity we don't get. £1.5 Billion this year and £10 Billion by 2030.

Can anyone in Government write a contract?

Who is signing this nonsense off?

The private ownership definitely is bonkers as well. Energy is a basic need for the population, it shouldn't be run to provide profit for shareholders, it should be run to benefit the country.

We have been sold down the river. The infrastructure has been allowed to rot for our essential services but the prices keep rising.

And now we're stuck. Milliband gets stick for spending on Clean energy 2030, but we have to. Otherwise we'll have built or partially built renewable power stations generating power that goes nowhere (Reform would be fine with this), there is no real alternative source of generation yet or without their own impacts.

National grid won't invest because they'd lose millions and millions.

Its the same with water, but the problems caused are less obvious than the lights going out so the government won't spend the cash either.

The water companies won't because the cost would be billions and billions.

Miliband gets stick for crass decisions like letting contracts for generation without making sure the infrastructure is in place.

What infrastructure has been allowed to rot ? Investment in the grid system has been ongoing for at least 15 years and now with a record capital investment of nearly £10 billion with plans to invest nearly £60 billion over the next 5 years I’d say the opposite .

Unless we're talking about something different, and in my experience, it's not the case.

I'm familiar with Erebus and Awel Y Mor off Wales, both awarded contracts in the last round . Neither connection is in place yet, but have permission and plans to do so relatively simply. No windfarm, no connection needed, No connection planned, no contract awarded. After that it's down to National Grid.

The construction and maintence for Erebus and future, huge, off shore wind farms will be based at Port Talbot. 100's of secure, well paid jobs.

The strike price is high, but the companies want to make a profit unfortunately. They're also on Crown Estate which is another matter.

If the infrastructure is fine then why do we pay billions to turn off wind farms because the grid cannot cope with getting that power where it is needed. When I said rot maybe stagnate would be a better choice?

The water infrastructure, now that has rotted!

It's desperately needed and only been planned since 2024. It was left to rot before that.

The genius part of the plan is that we'll pay for it and National Grid shareholders will get a nice dividend.

You got companies starting up making a few quid and enticing customers offering cheaper prices to sign up with them and then after they've mad a few quid sell out to the bigger companies, SSE who were and are a massive company sold their retail side of the business to a smaller "growing" company in OVO and who have now sold out to EON, its a racket were billions are being made.

Indirectly hmmm , I did until recently for over 35 years and then over ten in the renewables including renewables covering all manner of generation and transmission so I do have some experience in knowing what I’m talking about. Maybe try blaming successive governments for pushing the green agenda without having any clear strategy how to link it all together , the rush for renewables has been chaotic at best .

Posters on here do not understand that storage of energy is a big problem in energy generating and is very complex.

They are doing a good h job and I do not remember one power outage which are common in less developed countries. The electric generator s are smart people and would laugh off some of the comment on here.

Because demand is uneven and the wind uneven complex systems are employed. Nuclear CANNOT be switch off and used as the vase load. Wind and gas and biomass are amended as required. When it is windy less gas is used and vice versa. UK is slowly building up it energy storage such that wind energy at night is fully used

Eventually petrol will be unnecessary except for shops and airplanes.

UK after Brexit and Covid got the taste for calling the shot . We gave a por understanding of science and engineering in general and this thread proves it . Trust in UK engineering and science. They know their jobs. When you put the kettle in it works. Only quarter full it will save you money.

Economy , don’t think so

In it, yet he's been an advocate of ending the triple lock for pensioners who have paid in fortunes into the system and those fortunes are being spent on things that they shouldn't be spending on and on a daily basis.

Miliband spent billions on this net zero and for what, we got these blot on the landscape wind turbines of which loads don't work and now he's spending the same as the Foreign Minister, 88 million to Palestine and no doubt was behind the 140 mil given to Pakistan for contraception, when the country is skint and they expect the hardworking taxpayers to pay more, most are hardworking anyway.

Yet you got a few on here who will defend them to the hilt cause in their heads they always think they are right

You couldn't make this shit up.

We know the grid isn't capable of transferring a lot of generated electricity from some parts of the country to anouther, it's why those companies have been given billions of tax payers money to turn off the wind farms, they're called constraint payments. When we do that we also end up paying for generation by other means such as gas fired power stations so it's a double whammy.

Saying the strike price is high because they want profit is true AND also gross stupidity because public subsidy money is used to prop up private business who then also charge us higher prices.

It needs nationalising, if we are going to pay for it anyway then why not own it?

And you’d be right to.

I don’t think any of the major parties think the triple lock (which was needed at the time) is sustainable.

Labour coming out and planning a change to the double lock has forced Torys and Reform to commit the other way.

Brown's tax raid on company pensions with an ageing population was absolutely suicidal.

In recent years governments have woken up, way to late, and made pension provision a necessity.

Why do we have to wait for dumb politicians to realise the consequences of their actions when the consequences are so obvious at the time of their actions.

Surely someone would have said to the dumb ass if people don't have their own pension arrangements the state will have to pick up the slack.

Same with his splurge on in work benefits which we have not recovered from, surely someone must have told the idiot , if the state tops up people's wages companies will take advantage pay people less and allow the state to pick up a bigger and bigger proportion of what people receive.

It's not entirely, or even mostly down to companies paying less because the Govt will pick up the slack. A lot of people will actively choose to work only p/t for the same reason. Loads of UC claimants will turn down extra shifts or additional regular hours because there's no point. They're no better off.

Tie them into people who will do their level best to avoid doing any "on the books" work at all because their benefits will be reduced and you've got a problem.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

You are entitled to believe a bunch of football fans on a football fan website are entitled to believe they know better than the professionals a in what is a successful and complex business .

I just question you judgement. The wind turbine people went into the oceans with their massive very costly rigs saying we will provide you energy when the wind blows and want paying for it. The National grid says we will use your wind electricity to meet the demand of UK citizens and use excess for storage like Dinowic. They cannot shut off nuclear so that he as precedence.. Gas is fired up when and where National grid says so..Both wind and gas have to be flexible and need to be guaranteed a profit .

UK citizen will not accept power cuts. Coal was nationalised back in the 1960 and 1970 and some of hse remember the 3 day week and candles.
