| Injuries on 09:49 - Oct 21 by Northernr | I know the general consensus seems to be that we're terribly unlucky with Mbengue as well, but it doesn't sit right with me that he came on with a knee strapped like that and within minutes it collapsed under him with nobody around him. |
And that in a game where we were 4-0 up and didn't need to take any risks. The same game where Madsen (who we now know to be crocked) was also on the bench. Is the team doctor only working one day a week!? And it's not even the first time this year that we have had players dropping like flies in a game we had well won. A load of players went off injured when we beat Sheffield Wednesday at home in January https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/fo Some of the decision making around player fitness and maintenance seems to leave a lot to be desired.

| Injuries on 09:35 - Oct 21 by GaryBannister86 | The thing is, of course the Lamptey signing was welcomed by the fans. It was a signing. Of someone we had heard of. That's all the fans want isn't it, these days? To "win" the transfer window. To be cooking. #announceanyone I'm already reading that we need to sign strikers in January. We've got Kone, Burrell, Lloyd, Virat ... why on earth should we need to sign more? Are we Nottingham Forest? I mean, with a cool head, the Lamptey signing was a total farce. Basically saying Fiorentina are morons and we have the healing properties of Lazarus. Is there really a "shot to nothing" in football? Are we not paying him? Is he not using up a squad place? Is he not meaning that we are ending games with 10 men? How about a new plan of making fewer signings, using the extra budget to buy players who are...you know....fit? Durable? |
It's mid October. Can we not give a 26-year-old player signed on a free with an injury in July a little bit longer before deciding it was a 'total farce'? His performance at Blackburn transformed that game and, as keen as Keeley Adamson is, he could play for another ten years and not produce an assist for the winner that Lamptey did that afternoon. So I'm going to give him the length of his contract rather than three months. We have seen chronically injured players with real pedigree and class overcome those physical issues to perform heroically at QPR (and elsewhere) before, like Paul Furlong, Heidar Helguson, even Sam Field. I have not seen too many physically robust but technically limited players succeed to fans' expectations. Lamptey is 26. Younger than the chronically injured Furlong when he signed. Whether we have the right people here fixing players, getting them fit etc...that's a different question. The signs since Williams came are not good! But midseason, in the words of JFH, it is what is. I do think it's endemic at this level and am not sure there's a magic bullet. I have always thought Steve Gallen has done miracle work at Millwall and would have swapped him for CN in a heartbeat. However, there's a nine-page thread on the Millwall board titled 'Injuries' asking why this is the third season they've been derailed by them and demanding an enquiry and heads on sticks...

Just because they look the part doesn't mean there can't be a problem. Pitches that are hard or soft to play on have been linked to increased injury risk. It's a fair point, TK, that I've gone early to call it a farce. But it's not looking good so far, is it? Of course he is quality. But what's the point in that for 1 game every two months and he could have lost us the game at West Ham if it wasn't for Charles? Naturally I very much hope we fix him and he comes good, but sadly the writing is on the wall and it is writ large. I echo someone's point before on this thread. We're QPR, not Carshalton. We're an attractive proposition, love to throw money around, so can't we sign players who are both physically robust AND talented? Just means we have to sign fewer of them to keep within budget, no? I just think we've got a bit stuck with this belief we can get great bargains on crocks. Hasn't exactly been a success yet, Field apart.

I, too, have walked on the pitches at Heston. I have watched several matches there, as well, watching the young boys play. Those pitches are 'top dollar', proper decent pitches, the surfaces are the very best I have seen or played on. The pitches cannot be the issue. Moving on, I just cannot understand how we get so many injuries, I also do not understand why we over protect our players, from injury apparently, so frequently because we are still getting injuries, I also do not understand why there is so much commotion at the Club about 3 games a week, moaning about players travelling back from international games and how tired they must be, etc, etc. I, also, fail to see why most posters blame Williams because of 'this & that', I do not know if it is all Williams doing but.......If he was that bad I am sure he would have been replaced by now even if he is best mates with Nourry. Despite being best friends (apparently!!) Nourry would not jeopardise the 'Nourry Project' and get himself a bad name and not succeed and limiting his CV , I do not know why all this injury stuff is happening, I suspect many, if not all, of the posters here do not know either but are simply unfounded opinions. Yes and most clubs have very large injury lists now as well. Could be a total coincidence but just asking could playing on a perfect training pitch and then playing on the slip and slide at Loftus Road make a difference. It is odd that we've had these problems in almost ever season now since the move to Heston, the only one we didn't was the second season at the new training ground and even then we had plenty missing in the first half of the season.

Thats the whole we can't play Boy Kemper for 90 mins thing so throw on Mbengue. The managing minutes thing hasn't really worked. I've not seen it back but it looked like he slipped on the wet grass which on a day that it had rained seemed to be overly watered again at half time. Edwards slipped as well soon after | | | | Login to get fewer ads

if you worked at a company and the head of dept was over a period of time was absent for a year and moonlighting with another company who sacked him after one year with the worst inujury record they have ever recorded comes back and our muscle related injuries get worse and keep reoccuring with players who were rarely inuured before now barely playing you would demand a review to find out where the project is and make changes last three seasoss this has been happening and nothing has changed , so yes id say project nourry is protecting project lycra becuase most companies would have sent him down the road ages ago . arsenal did a review of there injuries and guess what they did ?

Think it will come to pass that modern football pitches are fantastic looking surfaces that deliver games all year round that they may well be contributing to a propensity of major non contact injuries. Remember a couple of years or so ago Glen Murray former Brighton and Palace striker saying he had reservations that modern pitches were contributing to a rise in non contact type injuries. Not sure all this continual watering of the pitch before games and at ht are helping much either. [Post edited 21 Oct 11:06]

Injuries are increasing. Also injuries in pre-match warm-ups also seem to happen a lot more now than in the past. There could be all sorts of reasons to explain that, but surely the pitch has to be worth considering. Maybe there isn't enough give in hybrid pitches that for players that are twisting and turning. Maybe they become difficult to play on if they get too wet. Who knows. I don't have any solid evidence to back that up. but these are multi-million pound assets so you would think someone somewhere would be trying to figure it out. Clive mentioned earlier that some clubs seem to have a particular problem with recurring injuries. So looking for a common factor there might be a logical starting point. Not that any of them would want to compare notes mid-season, cos you know, competitive advantage!

Well exactly as we're not the only ones facing this - and I think most of the current injuries are contact rather than soft tissue so not a huge amount you can do about that. BUT it still feels like our medical/performance teams could be doing more, and given how things have gone the last couple of years then understandably there's not much faith in them. Williams and Nourry might be thick as thieves but surely there comes a point where even Nourry realises his mate's lack of ability is impinging his future career prospects. Let alone the manager trying to bluff this way through all this.

Agreed, although the he Lamptey transfer now looks the absolute gamble we thought it was, bit too early to call if a farce. Even if this transfer doesn’t work out unless we see the details of the finances behind it will be impossible to suggest with confidence it as a mistake. What is ridiculous is fans suggesting what a great transfer window we had when we haven’t seen players play for us or even knowledge of their fitness.

| Injuries on 11:30 - Oct 21 with 819 views | dmm | I looked for research on whether hybrid pitches contributed to player injuries. Although inconclusive, there appear to be indications that they do in some research, particularly for foot and ankle injuries, but not for others. "From a biomechanical perspective, artificial turf exhibits higher frictional coefficients than natural grass resulting in higher foot and ankle injury rates." https://www.researchgate.net/p "The higher incidence of ankle sprain on artificial turf warrants further attention, although this result should be interpreted with caution as the number of ankle sprains was low." https://bjsm.bmj.com/content/4 "The overall incidence of football injuries is lower on artificial turf than on grass. Based on these findings, the risk of injury can't be used as an argument against artificial turf when considering the optimal playing surface for football." https://www.thelancet.com/jour | | | |

Look, Lamptey is an excellent player, there's no arguing that. But also, if anyone, including anyone at the club, seriously thought a guy with his record not just recently but over his entire adult career was going to play anything more than 15-20 games this season then they were deluding themselves. I don't mind the signing, because those 15-20 games could hugely influence our season, but there's no point us lumping him in with other injury issues: it would be the same wherever he was.

| Injuries on 11:46 - Oct 21 with 718 views | superhoopaus | It’s depressing to see another season start to go to waste for the same reasons. This has been a recurring pattern for several years now. Ben Williams gets credit for the strong availability in 2023-24. Everything since (the remote 2024-25 period when in Dubai and working with Brooklyn Nets and the full time return since last summer) has not delivered anything close. The current list — Mbengue season ACL, Madsen/Burrell/Lamptey out until after November, Chair still out, others managing — is the same cycle again. These are not all soft tissue overtraining cases. Risk decisions, recovery pathways and recruitment profiles need independent review with published days lost data versus the league. Internal reassurance from Christian Nourry has not improved the results. I believe a proper review is long overdue. If we don’t sort this out, our standards are clearly not high enough. We risk losing a decent manager in Julien Stéphan if he can never consistently play his best team, and we risk losing standout players like Ronnie Edwards who has shown real drive and quality this season. | Injuries on 12:02 - Oct 21 with 638 views | Lblock | I'm no physio, fitness expert or cycling guru....... but my opinion remains that athletes at the tip top of their game, who are robust and peak fit do not get injured unless extremely unlucky. In a contact sport you have that random factor where someone can clatter your ankle, you can fall awkwardly or a spotty kid from Bolton can scythe through you. Those random contact injuries are understandable and forgivable. What is an absolute scandal is where you know your in form striker has him hamstrings at explosion point, your top midfielder running on fumes, players with heavy strapping and niggles yet you don't rehab them fully. That only serves to compound signing the cast of M*A*S*H to compete in one of the most arduous Leagues in the bloody world! Lamptey point in case. When he signed I was pretty incredulous on that thread and got shot down - it was shock to me that a player with that injury history would even consider joining a club with our track record. Think I said I'd be amazed if we got 12 full games out of him and, surely, he's drawing a wage from our slender budget for the other 34 games. Try and convince me that's VFM without tying me up and feeding me large amounts of MDMA | |

Its the usual on paper looks a great signing issue , the problem is we dont play on paper. get a few star names in yeah had a few injuries but as Steve Austin would say we can rebuild him, trouble is we cant and we will actually make him worse Come to Rangers the EFL version of Digitas Add in the excercise of buy cheap sell big isnt gojng to work if the buy cheap player is signing a new deal while being wheeled around in a wheelchair. if you was a player looking to move would you give rangers a seconds thought as your next career move ?
