| Injuries on 11:40 - Oct 21 by Antti_Heinola | Look, Lamptey is an excellent player, there's no arguing that. But also, if anyone, including anyone at the club, seriously thought a guy with his record not just recently but over his entire adult career was going to play anything more than 15-20 games this season then they were deluding themselves. I don't mind the signing, because those 15-20 games could hugely influence our season, but there's no point us lumping him in with other injury issues: it would be the same wherever he was. |
I think the plan was probably to rotate both full back positions. So Kember/Cirkin one side and Mbengue/Lamptey on the other with Adamson getting in on it too. That works on the right if Lamptey manages those 15+ games you're talking about this season, but now totally collapses with Mbengue's ACL. I still think we'll get a dozen games out of Lamptey - and perhaps as you say they may be valuable, especially in the spring - but I'm fearful of Adamson carrying it through the winter. He's exceeded expectations, but he's played fewer than a dozen career games at this level so there's a drop off to come. Mbengue's injury is a big problem. I wonder if we may see Cirkin in a DCM role or playing advanced of Kember too in coming weeks, especially away at Southampton.
| Injuries on 13:27 - Oct 21 with 1658 views | Northernr | Hunter makes an interesting point higher up. One of the impressive things about Christian, and more recently Julien, is this talk of standards, and ambition. Nourry at the Soccerex thing was talking constantly about being "best in class" and "getting Premier League ready". Stephan more recently has been saying things like "show ambition or don't show up". And I love that. I understand why they did it and what they were working against, but for me there was too much acceptance of mediocrity under Les and Lee's regime - basically we've got the 15th best budget in the Championship and so we finish 15th and can never aspire to or hope for more. It is tough to overcome that financial burden, two thirds of the league tends to finish exactly where it should per wage bill, but you've got to aspire. I'm sick of little old QPR accepting our fate as if there's nothing we can do about it, as if other clubs our size haven't gone past us. So when Christian is talking like that it's the times I'm most impressed with him. Whenever injuries/fitness come up, however, the rhetoric completely flips. The acceptance of mediocrity and hands up 'what can we do?' attitude comes back. They deny it's a problem and make excuses for it, they moan about the schedule and fixture list, they present statistics that show it's not as bad as it looks or we think, they consistently reference some unseen report from the EFL which places us "midtable for injuries". Injury updates are mostly kept secret, when they are published they seek to downplay the problem, and then they quietly get deleted from the official website. We're now in month ten of Justin Obikwu, which happened in January when it was described as "not a big problem". We're told at the fans forum that it's frustrating, but at least they're not long term injuries. A performance department that has overseen a disastrous 2.5 years is described as "sensational". People in the academy and other parts of the club have been moved on, sometimes quite ruthlessly. This lot get a personal name check at the fan forum - "John The Psych". What happened to show ambition? Why is it okay as long as we're midtable for injuries? Why is it okay to have a dozen players out as long as none of it is long term? Why is this okay because the same thing is happening at Millwall? What happened to standards? What happened to best in class and get Premier League ready?

| Injuries on 13:52 - Oct 21 with 1525 views | QPROslo | It wasn't long ago JS said we hadn't had many muscle injuries this season. I don't know if that has changed, Madsen seemed to get kicked near the end of the Derby game, but if the Club published what the injuries are as they used to do, a lot of this speculation would be avoided. | | | |

| Injuries on 11:46 - Oct 21 by superhoopaus | It’s depressing to see another season start to go to waste for the same reasons. This has been a recurring pattern for several years now. Ben Williams gets credit for the strong availability in 2023-24. Everything since (the remote 2024-25 period when in Dubai and working with Brooklyn Nets and the full time return since last summer) has not delivered anything close. The current list — Mbengue season ACL, Madsen/Burrell/Lamptey out until after November, Chair still out, others managing — is the same cycle again. These are not all soft tissue overtraining cases. Risk decisions, recovery pathways and recruitment profiles need independent review with published days lost data versus the league. Internal reassurance from Christian Nourry has not improved the results. I believe a proper review is long overdue. If we don’t sort this out, our standards are clearly not high enough. We risk losing a decent manager in Julien Stéphan if he can never consistently play his best team, and we risk losing standout players like Ronnie Edwards who has shown real drive and quality this season. "I believe a proper review is long overdue." While I agree that a review would normally constitute good governance, there are two problems the owners would have. First is "who is it by?" Last time we had one, we gave the keys of the club to a young novice with no experience because the review, his review, recommended it. He then immediately hired another novice for a senior position. So who would do this review this time? Which novice? Could either of them be trusted to be truthful and impartial? Second is "who is it for?" If it was Bhatia who commissioned the last report and was tasked with implementing it, well he is gone. If it was Hoos, then was it Hoos who accepted the review's recommendation that the reviewer be given the keys, even if he was a novice, and was the rest of the report implemented? Would he be entrusted again? Did everyone at the club - owners and staff - take part? Did everyone see it? Was everyone asked to act on the parts pertaining to their roles? I agree that a review would normally constitute good governance, but I'm not sure I would have much faith, given that there are so many questions about the last one. | |

| Injuries on 14:19 - Oct 21 with 1380 views | Doomr | Is this rocket science? No Was this completely predictable? Yes, just like last season You have a bicycle in charge of football performance and wonder why it’s not working? How about pushing the boat out and doing something truly radical as a club, like hiring someone who’s actually got a proven track record of working in football??? Maybe, just maybe if QPR hired someone who actually knew what they were doing and didn’t revolve entirely around a spreadsheet and the London to Brighton, we wouldn’t be looking at the end of what seemed like a huge opportunity at the start of the season (playoffs). Wonder how long till JS oversteps the mark with his comments and besties CN and Bikey Ben blame his management choices and send him to Coventry (not the club) | | | |

This is excellent. It helps to cut through the ambiguity around all clubs having injuries, stupid game schedule etc because it clarifies the complaint that we all obviously feel by framing the problem as, regardless the mitigating circumstances, the situation isn't good enough for a club with the stated ambitions we have and are being asked to buy in to - we're failing according to our own terms [Post edited 21 Oct 15:30]

| Injuries on 23:16 - Oct 20 by KensalT | Agree with all of that. But for me the number of players looking for physical conditioning or rehab support outside of the club has to be a big red flag. A few years ago when we had crap facilities that might have been understandable, but now we have an expensive and state of the art training ground. |
"But for me the number of players looking for physical conditioning or rehab support outside of the club has to be a big red flag". That is exactly what I was thinking. I'm not sure how much proof we have but if that is happening, it's an indictment of the club.

| Injuries on 18:14 - Oct 21 with 675 views | numptydumpty | Appreciate the risky recruitment shots in the dark that are not.currently.working but forgetting this first, would a different performance team provide better outcomes for our current squad. This needs to be assessed and if its deemed different approaches shown from the rehab tesm etc, could get better outcomes for availability with our squad, as is, then we need to immediately take action. For me four years is long enough time of failure on this, to bring in change. PPPPPPPPĹĹLLLLLEÈEEEEEÀAAAAASSSSEEEE Mr Nourry ?????? DO IT NOW !!! | |

3 - 0 to the good guys. Obikwu hat trick. I have foreseen it.
| Injuries on 18:21 - Oct 21 with 651 views | numptydumpty | Obikwu has he had enough time to get get himself in peak condition for a first team appearance. We.dont want him coming on, only to pick up another five month delay in his rehabilitation. Its ok. He is in the hands of experts and is facing an elite rehab regime and should be available to play three games in 2027, but he needs to be reintroduced slowly so we start with three 5 minute cameos to start. Its a tough workload for the modern day professional these days and this has to be approached in the right way without overloading players so that they do not pick up any further issues down the line. Short term we can cope. Burrell was out anyway so have Kolli or Kone up front. Varane can come in for Madsen and Lamptey wasn't playing either. Next 2 games are tough but not impossible. Problem long term is if Madsen can get back to what he was last season, he doesn't seem to trust his body at the moment and first game he got back to pushing himself and getting all over the pitch he gets injured again. Kone is the same. | | | |

Not meaning to call you out and appreciating that you’re in a horrible position trying to retain some semblance of relationship with the club but you know as well as anyone what the biggest driver behind the injury farce at the club is and why CN is so aggressive in his spin strategy behind the topic.

| Injuries on 20:29 - Oct 21 with 288 views | Wegerles_Stairs | Assuming the Madsen injury was incurred against Derby, it does make you wonder why he was on the bench on Saturday. It might also explain Obikwu not coming on either - maybe he is still injured. It's bluffing the opposition to think you have a full house when you've got a pair of twos. Competitive advantage. | | | |

Back to back three game weeks is unusual though, isn't it. Unnecessary too, as we are now in back to back weeks without a midweek game.

Again, while agreeing this year's schedule is crazy, QPR have played three games in a month. Lamptey, Madsen, Mbengue, Saito, Lloyd - none of these people were on internationals, they've effectively just had a three week break of pure training to top up their pre-season.

This bit is not true, though is it: "I understand why they did it and what they were working against, but for me there was too much acceptance of mediocrity under Les and Lee's regime - basically we've got the 15th best budget in the Championship and so we finish 15th and can never aspire to or hope for more." In 2019, they seized control of footballing appointments from the board after McLaren, appointed Warburton and finished 13th. Encouraged, they invested in the team and finished 9th in 2020-21. But for Covid, who knows? Encouraged even further, they invested again and really went for it. Manager, players, LF all spoke about it. They weren't doing what you describe at all. They were more explicit than anyone at club now, other than Dunne. Finished 11th. Disappointing. But those three seasons are all better finishes than Nourry's three placings. They went for it again the next season with Beale and, well, it cost them their jobs. Not Hoos, obviously. He gave himself a promotion. But the others. Worth pointing out that that 2020-21 play-off push was badly derailed by injuries too. It's not just happened under Ben Williams (I also have strong muscle memories of managers stretching back from Holloway through Francis to Jim Smith all saying "I've never known an injury crises like this..."). Let's not be revisionist. Nourry and Stephan are no more ambitious than Ferdinand and Warburton, their standards no higher. Imagine trying to tell either Les or Warbs you felt that. It's rubbish. They just have more money to play with. For now. No need to invent recent history.
