2 questions

How many fit players do we have?

Do I need to bring my boots and deep heat on Wednesday ?

Injuries on 20:10 - Oct 20 with 1429 viewsnumptydumpty

Am not being funny but this resting players and taking some off after 60 minutes as pre planned to prevent injuries, its total and utter BS.

We consistently have the worst injury record in the league.

Yes, i am not a technical person with knowledge of biological and physiological treatments for best possible fitness and recovery times, and players supposedly train at levels to encourage long term and sustainable fitness and appreciate i know nothing around the logistics of this.

All i am aware of is the results of these issues !!!

Absolutely fricking awful !!!

Generally always have a minimum of four long term injuries and in general we have ten to twelve unavailable at any given time.

This performance team is the one consistent failing department of the club.

Please get rid of these charlatans. They have been awful. It can be dressed up in a whole variety of ways, but the consistent failures have NOW to be addressed with great urgency as this current team will get us nowhere.

Please change them Mr Nourry. We want to try new blood please....

I want to see my own favourite Performance Department employees and none of the current cohorts are cutting it for me.

NEXT..........

If things carry on like this we'll only have Pugh, Pugh, Barney, McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and Grubb left.

And Cuthbert is doubtful.

Something has to be done about the schedule which is mental. Absolutely ridiculous that the second highest tier of professional football plays 46 league games.

Time for the EFL to lose four teams so we can have a 20 team Championship with two 24 team divisions below it.

Poll: How many more points will we get this season?

While I don’t disagree this year’s schedule is a challenge, QPR have played 3 games of football in a month.

If you're going to buy a load of high performance cars with dodgy service histories and known risks then you best have a damn fine fleet of the finest mechanics and engineers to make sure you can use them.

I'm boring myself with car analogies and our player availability / proven runners that get you about and aren't parked on your drive looking good and "cooking".

Declan Rice is an extreme example but... if you add up the wages per week that are never available to play I bet it is a tidy sum and would easily equate to 2 or 3 robust proven Championship players who'll give you 46 games a year.

I'd stake a large sum on Burrell's injury being a reoccurance of his ruptured hamstring so that is quite possibly his career at a high level down the pan.

Totally agree on investing in this area but Williams has to be part of the problem -- just look at the correlation of his time here.
The rumours about the players canteen and his attitude.
Whispers that certain players openly saying the approach to fitness is a joke and employing their own PT's.
I say again - if you're going to invest in players that need huge focus on their health then make sure you've got that covered.

Anyway... 13 wins to get.

I started my earlier post stating: "I hold no torch for Ben Williams".

So I have not come on here as his spokesperson.

I've heard the rumours (bad) and his performance at the fans forum wasn't great.

But that isn't in itself a smoking gun.

He might be a bit of a jerk to deal with: it doesn't explain why we have so many injuries.

The point about players getting their own PTs: I don't know the answer here, but is it possible most players at most clubs have one? Anyone can come up with a rumour, but in itself it's not enough to sack someone unless it's substantiated.

It is not that hard to find a scapegoat - Noury or Williams are the usual suspects- but what should we have done/ be doing?

RECRUITMENT:

We could have filled the squad with 24 Osman Kakays: fit, strong guys with good injury records.

The flip side is such players might lack the technical ability to get the team challenging for the play offs, which now seems the expectation of many fans.

Granted Declan Rice is an extreme example, but just about every Championship club is mining the same data science sets across Europe and beyond for player recruitment. We are not working in a vacuum. We have a lower than average budget for our division. Many players we sign (Poku, Kone etc) are linked with rival clubs.

SPORTS SCIENCE/ PERFORMANCE TEAM

So if it is not a clear/ easy fix on recruitment, is it something we are doing in the building?

If so, I repeat my question from a couple of weeks ago: what is it?

Clive initially replied that such problems often reflected on how a club was run, but rowed back when I asked if he thought our club was badly run.

No one else has really come up with a tangible suggestion.

So I totally accept that we MIGHT be doing something terrible, and if so yes absolutely we should fix it, and if we can find better, let's do so. But after hundreds of posts on the subject I am still completely clueless on what it actually is we are doing wrong...

The sight of Lamptey at West Ham being barely able to move to help his team mates in the last few minutes summed it all up for me. I mean I'm sure Fiorentina were totally shocked, having ripped up a 4 year contract on a £5m signing 3 years early.

I know he was seen as a worthwhile roll of the dice, but....we've gambled on signing crocks, we've gambled on keeping the same medical team in place.....and at the moment it's been about as successful as any of my accas.

It may be our strongest squad on paper for many years, but as the cliche goes, football is actually played on grass.

Still, I am sure we will go out in January and sign another ten players to keep the plan chugging on!

Totally unconvinced by it all.

Not digging at you mate.

My frustration at the clubs approach to transfers has been there for years.

It's why I hate that glossary "if there wasn't something wrong with him he wouldn't be here" tag.
It's demeaning to a proud football club formed in 1882 and such a terrible standrard to have.

I don't trust the current people steering the ship but I'm not going to sit here and say they haven't done some really good things, those are clear.
What they have categorically failed to do is build an upper level Championship squad that has to also be patently clear to everyone.

24 Osman Kakays is one side of the coin - game player but lacking at the level.
How about 24 sets of Jermaine Jenas', or Alex Dyer's or Luke Amos'???

I'll stick my pith helmet on and march off grumbling... "we can't 'alf pick 'em..."

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

You could say that the good news is Burrell won't be going away on International duty.

WLS says Kone is fit and available for Saturday. Seriously? The same Kone that hasn't looked fit all season. I wouldn't play him.

Any doubt over Jimmy I wouldn't play him either. Kemper or Cirkin can play in the centre and surely it's about time we blew the dust off Morrison, applied the WD40 and give him some minutes.

A few points.

At other clubs PTs are not common and, in many cases, are banned by the club because they often know less than the club’s physios and fitness coaches and can get the players doing things which don’t align with what the players are doing at the club.

We have had several players rehab away from the club after recurring injuries and losing faith in the club’s ability to rehab them. We have had players make official complaints about the meals in the canteen and the pre-match meals (“they will eat what I f*cking tell them to eat”). One former player was less than complimentary in the nickname he had for our Director of Performance.

I’m not aware of other clubs who’s entire Performance/Physio department is headed by someone who’s background is cycling.

The same man who headed up Brooklyn Nets’ fitness and saw them achieve a record level of hamstring injuries and who parted ways with him after one season.

We do lots of things differently to other clubs. The club publicised some of this during the summer of the Ainsworth-Cifuentes season, after having a a terrible run the season before. Phased loading. Gradual ramp up. Start the season at 60% for fewer injuries at the back of the season when the Tour De France comes around. It was Nourry’s hire when he was at Retexo. And that season, we had a great record. What has followed has been 2.5 seasons of disaster.

Perhaps it’s all bad luck. Consistent bad luck. We’ve responded by putting the bloke responsible for these bad results/bad luck in charge of more and more…physios, medical team, strength and conditioning, pitches, travel, hotels, players’ diets, training ground.

I really hoped this season would be different. I truly did. I know there was a big review early into last season about how they started las season with injuries. Stephan’s methods took them by surprise and put more stress on the players muscles in early pre-season. They supposedly have factored all this in and overhauled how they were going to do it. That was what was said. I actually thought they’d made pre season two weeks’ longer, but actually it was one, and if you count the Millwall League Cup game as game 1, it was the same length.

Perhaps it’s the training ground pitches? Perhaps it’s the schedule this year? Perhaps it really just is bad luck.

BUT there is a lot of other noise. Noise the club is very aware of. The club has not been slow in getting rid or pushing people to resigning for the merest hint of not delivering what was asked of them. Ramsey, Cifuentes, Hyde, Hall, Furlong, the former Ops Director, the women’s coach, the Ticket Office Manager, and many more. And that’s not to say some didn’t deserve it. It’s just inconsistent.

Why not change the leadership of this function? That’s the question. Why wouldn’t you make a change to try to improve it? What do you have to lose?? Rather than trying to argue that we’re not the worst and there are other clubs with similarly bad injury records, why not try to be one of the best? Why not see it as something to become a league leader in give us a genuine competitive advantage…rather than deleting historic injury updates on the club website in case prospective buyers of our players choose to do their research by trawling through our club website?

There's an obvious common denominator at the root of this ongoing problem who sadly appears to be untouchable despite failing upwards for the last 3 seasons after taking the credit for Clarke-Salter managing a run of games in 23/24. There's an obvious reluctance to address that and instead he keeps getting promotions to detach him from any accountability due to the scope of his responsibilities across the Club getting wider.

It's an odd hill to die on for the decision maker who has already PR'd one Manager out of the Club who dared to air their grievances publicly, with Stephan clearly becoming frustrated with the ongoing farce it will be interesting to see if he continues to back his boy, or "JuJu", who just wants to be able to pick his best players on a Saturday.

Regardless of the overstated recruitment risks and ridiculous schedules our players are being mismanaged for a fourth straight season, so the solution to these problems clearly aren't capable of being found by the people in the building that are supposed to be doing so. Get someone in to audit and fix that area ASAP, just as long as they don't suggest themselves for the job.

We deserve better than having our Season potentially go up in smoke after 10 games at the expense of keeping mates in a job.

Nourry must be feeling the heat. I can’t believe his loyalty to Williams extends to losing his own job. If the wheels come off again, as would appear to be happening, I’d imagine the owners are going to be pretty p11ssed off. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a restructure involving a new Head of the medical dept, with Williams quietly shuffled out the door in a few months. It needs sorting and it can’t wait until the end of the season.

ours weakest area is the back room , physios dept isnt fit for purpose and hasnt been for what three seasos now yet all seem to keep there jobs or in some case get promotions , multi million pound buiness reliant on people who lets be honest arent fit for purpose , heard we have gone through 4 people in the recent 12 months running the IT side of the company due wages being rubish also,
you get what you pay for in life pay ribbish get rubbish

somebody did pre international break when they said they would be back after which break did he mean ?

JS prob will walk same as our previous coach made comments about the poor state of the squad injury wise.

All teams have injuries, but other squads are deeper. We have a great 13/14, but lose 5 and we're stuffed.

James,

I admire the way you stick to your guns: it would be easy to put the boot in now.

I have nothing against Nourry. I don't trust him, but I've never met him and it's not personal.

The main thing is that none of us fall out about this. What's important is that something needs to change, and needs to change quick. The worry is that we've spent the last of the Eze money, that we've offered long-term contracts, and that we've mortgaged the house on gaining promotion.

This is up to the owners to sort out.
It's our club that's at risk.
They have lots of money, but we only have one club.

Brian, I don’t think / hope, we’ll fall out. I don’t care whether I’m proved right or wrong, just want us to succeed for a change. And that’s true of most qpr fans I think.

For me, there are very good reasons why I think we are in a better place since Nourry came in. You only have to look at the squad that Gareth had, it required a serious overhaul. And that takes time.

But, I cannot continue to ignore the issues we have with squad availability. The last 2 seasons were shocking. I hoped / expected changes but at the very least an admission of mistakes and changes and improvements. As said before, I don’t blame them for Mbengue injury. But all the others? The sheer number of injuries can’t be just bad luck. I think maybe my annoyance is worse than most because I’ve liked the recruitment over last 2-3 years. It’s different, younger players, and not just players that “know the club” or “know English football” nonsense. It’s been varied and youthful and promising. We’ve also stuck by a good young coach who is proven in developing players. But all that good stuff is completely and utterly pointless if we continue to have these ridiculous amount of injuries. This season can quickly go down the pan and it’s so depressing.

As i said in another thread the top teams in this league have quality in depth , due to the fact they spend good money on fit quality players. We can't compete with these teams hence the fact is we are basically stuck in this league . My view is you have yo spend money to have a chance to get out of it.
