Swans stand the test but poor finishing means no points 18th Oct 2026 06:39
There will be much reflection on this game today and indeed until we start to concentrate on next Saturday’s fixture against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road. A game which sold out for Swans fans eighteen days ago. 3

Well he is home grown so if he was likely to get into any squad you would expect it to be yesterday. To me the non selection says he is a long way off contention.

Yesterday was very frustrating ,on another day we’d have scored a couple ,and yes maybe concede a couple too but I wish we’d have a pop from distance more often instead of of trying to walk the ball in,Eustaqui’s goal against Lincoln an example, even if the keeper gets in the way he isn’t always going to hold it and we’d get a chance

The goal conceded was because of an accumulation of errors, Stamenic getting caught on the ball, Cabango didn't keep the defensive line during their subsequent attack even though he had sight of Welsh position and finally he dropped into the six yard box which has been the correct position with an opposition forwards coming into that area in other games but the forward dropped off to give himself space and wasn't picked up, three mistakes in a small space of time undid us.
As for the missed chances I though Cabango did well to turn and spin to get his shot away in a tight area and was very unlucky to hit the bar.
As for the other chances Idah shot narrowly missing it target but looked as if it would have been block if it was on target given the defender getting close to Idah.
Cabango's pulled shot if driven straight would have been more or less unstoppable missing the bblocking defender and requiring a good save from the keeper but as it been said a lack of composure, how many players even in the top flight have missed such chances, he took the wrong decision the same as Ronald at the death with his header who may have scored if directed at the goal but the keeper got into position to possibly save it or if Ronald had cushioned his header into an oncoming players path but maybe then a defender would have got to the ball first.

Lots of ifs and buts but you cannot make three errors as we did in our defensive third and you cannot keep playing so deep in our half without injecting pace into your possession play. Yeo did but was often doing it from deep, it all got to tight not opening the spaces up against a well organised team . We didn't change the point of attack quick enough as West Ham lost possession, our centre forward needed to challenge for the aerial ball in a cleverer or cleanly way instead of giving free kick by using his body to block the defenders which the referee often gave free kicks instead of just going for the ball but then he has to have players running off him or around him, wingers coming in or midfielders pushing forward we were too predictable after the first twenty minutes and got picked off by an organised team but we made mistakes and really didn't create enough problems for West Ham.
Still top of the league but at the moment, our home form needs a little more attention. A lot of tough games ahead which will be keenly contested I don't expect us to win every game but it would be nice to do so . COYS 🦢

I thought the problem with their goal was we had half a dozen players in the 6 yard box and nobody moved to block the shot when we are normally very good at doing this. As for the Ronald chance near the end, with the keeper covering the near post he was right to head the ball back across the goal, except he miss timed the header and in bounced over the head of Idah.

The defence and midfield had to work hard to get back to cover the quick break away with players kind of out of position, I think Fulton had the front post covered and Ronald had the back post and Vigouroux would have got anything get past Fulton so Cabango was the one needing to step out but he hadn't seen the player step out or not rush in it happens but as you say his goal scoring shot was not block as we normally do but is that down to the speed of their attack . All player make mistakes or read a situation wrong but it is the accumulation of errors even a well set up team against blood teams.
Ronald was damned if he tried to score direct and the goalie saved it and his option questioned because of its execution.

I think Ronald is a good play at this level it just seemed that his pairing with Key just needed guiding which Matos seens to be doing with them and many others in the team.
My comments are not complaints as such more observations or opinions if you prefer.

I am still of the opinion nobody moved out to close the shot down.

That’s the 20 percent we didn’t have on the day. But we do have a newer coming up. I’m sure JJ will enjoy it 😉

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Tbh they got it i to the box so quicky none of the defenders had time to get out.

It was a perfectly placed pass, if we had scored a goal like it we would be creaming ourselves.

The player crossing the ball took his time to pick out his man, by that time Ronald had got back to mark the man at the back post which originally be of concern to Cabango it left us sitting to deep to block.

Watched the match again on the Swans site , that challenge on Ronald where the player was booked looks worse especially when slowed down, it was dangerous,he caught Ronald high and at pace ,I’ve seen Red cards given for less
The Ref was poor and that decision was one of many poor ones on the day
Kante should change his name to Linoleum,he spent so much time on the floor and the fact he just ran off after the ref helped him up off the floor when he obviously only went down to stop a Swans attack was infuriating,he should have been booked it was that obvious

I thought at the time it could have been a red as well.

Surely the reactions of the crowd might of given the referee a clue as to Kante tactics.

I think we have to adopt the basket ball mentality more . IE every outfield player in the team should be comfortable hitting the target
under pressure. Fullbacks centre backs midfielders strikers should all be able to finish - from headers to tap ins long range shots lobs and with both feet from every angle.
Scoring is the most important part of the game if you don't do that you don't win .
How often do we hear tv commentary of " You can excuse him missing that he's a centre half " . It shouldn't be like that that's a soft excuse . It reminds me of Gary Players response when he holed a long range putt .
Hey Gary that was a lucky one !!
" Yes it's strange , the more I practise the luckier I get ".

I understand the point you make but in training you’ll find all our players can bury the ball relatively comfortably even Vigoroux. The issue that they have to contend with is pressure. This only comes with playing better opposition every week until it becomes the norm and that won’t happen in this league. Therefore, when we play the so called big clubs of which WH certainly are one, they have one over us just by their stature alone especially as we are leading the league.

This is why I’ve said on here that we need to learn from this. Not just tactics or techniques but mentally. Looking back, the players will know they should have been just that little bit composed in front of goal. I keep beating on about this but professional sport is as much psychological as it is physical ability.
