Williams.Gylfi,Ki and Taylor 19:45 - Aug 6 with 1603 views | Darran | There's a possibility they could all be in contention next Saturday and they haven't and one minute in pre-season between them. That's a bit weird if you ask me.

If he's match fit absolutely but without any football for a month it may be a bit of a push?

They should all have played the last 30 mins today. Having 3 or 4 of those start (assuming AW is still with us) without any real action in a few weeks sounds like bad preparation to me. Training at Landore is not a suitable alternative.

The euro players are getting a rest. The others need the fitness. Ki was on military duty. Based on the highlights we look like a team that will struggle but I don't think that is the first team. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Williams.Gylfi,Ki and Taylor on 23:58 - Aug 6 with 1040 views | max936 | None of them were there today, not even in the ground a week before the season starts, I know it was only a friendly and we probably will be ok come next May, but we looked a tad short of quality today, Naughton frightens me to death and Amat looked well short of gas chasing back towards the end, he's quality though that shone through the game, but he was covering the full back position, so where was our full back? Just an opinion though.

They had a rest at the end of last season and Ki must have flown back today then because he was there yesterday.

Taylor was definitely there signing autographs in the car park after the game. Not sure about the others.

It looks pretty clear that Williams will be off and I actually prefer Kingsley to Taylor. I wouldn't be surprised if Guido starts on the bench and Fer plays a bit further forward.

If Guido starts on the bench, we're f*cked - he's at deaths door mun.

The fullbacks looked like they were instructed to push up. Kingsley usually does instinctively but Naughton was playing further forward than usual so that looked like his instructions. When you play like that, the CDs have to move out cover the flanks when their fullback gets bypassed and the DM drops back into the middle, yesterday that was Leon but next week I expect it to be Cork. Amat clearly struggled to keep up with their right winger on one occasion when he pushed out to the left but I'm sure he didn't struggle any more than Ash or FF would have done in exactly the same situation. Don't know about Mike yet as haven't seen him running flat out. If you are going to play with the FBs pushed up, you will always get situations where CDs are chasing opposition wingers. Chris Coleman's solution is to play Chester, Ash & Ben as 3 CDs which allowed Gunter & Taylor to get forward so either Chester or Ben could cover the flank if their wingback was bypassed and still have Ash plus either Chester or Ben in the middle so a midfielder didn't have to drop back. Just a different solution to the same problem and one that FG has a history of using I believe.
