I just came in and put the news on and saw that America going to impose sanctions on Venezuela.

It got me thinking, know when you hear in the news that the UN are going to impose stronger sanctions on North Korea, what and who trades with North Korea?

Just wondering anyone know!

It's the same old shit from the Yanks.Any system that differs from theirs has to be changed accordingly. They tried it with Cuba and failed, it's called regime change,They did it recently in the Ukraine and succeeded there. Venezuela has lots and lots of lovely oil too.

They aren't, but they will try to put pressure on other countries, but it's all rhetoric as they have no influence over China, Russia etc

Thank you John. You'd really think that it would be 100% sanctions all the way though wouldn't. Absolutely no trading whatsoever.

Interesting question, so did some reading. China and Russia account for most trade, there is some with South Korea, but that is through economic zones. A large amount of trade with China is through coal etc, last time they test fired I recall China turned coal ships round in protest.

According to Wikipedia they also have a ski resort attracting 200k tourists a year. It doesn't say where from, but would guess China.

It's a very precarious situation as the ones who feel the full weight of sanctions are the citizens of DPK. The elites and the government hardly notice them.

Venezualan people having a tough time of it. Whatever the USA's motives, if they can dislodge this crank from power that's got to be a start.

Though I hope US involvement doesn't go beyond trade sanctions.

For example the free elections they just held that were boycotted by the opposition? The same ones about which The Guardian said:

countries across the region — including Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Paraguay — said they would not recognize the result on Sunday’s vote.?

The same free elections that the country's NEC reckon 8 million voted yet independent observers say it was nearer 3 million?

The free elections policed by the likes of these gentlemen?

Here's an interesting story you may have read recently:
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/jun/28/venezuela-supreme-court-grenade-po

One wonders why, rather than go to all that trouble, he didn't just put a cross in a box at his country's upcoming free elections.

I should probably have stuck this on the Venezuela thread though that seems to have gone down the "Mailonline comments" path.

You must live in Russia if you think Venezuela has free elections. All opposition politicians are either murdered or imprisoned. That was why the opposition was try to protest in streets.

Yes they can vote for one of the guys who's just been kidnapped from his house by the government.
