I know about that meeting, Daz. I’ve got some old clippings somewhere. The rabble complained the police were heavy-handed with them on the night. I’ve got sympathy with Old Bill, they were probably whacking them with truncheons to take their mind off the smell.

There is a history of communism in the area, more up the valleys the closer you get to the Aberdare, Merthyr, Rhondda triangle [covering places like Hirwaun, Penderyn and Rhigos] than the town of Neath but there was a lot of Reds about back in the day.

Indeed. Rhondda had a communist mayor (Annie Powell) and was well-represented in the International Brigade

They did well, Prof. One of them took silver in the great run back across the Ebro.

Yes Annie Powell was a Welsh speaking school teacher from Leanne Wood's neck of the woods, Penderyn/Hirwaun had a Communist councillor and that might just have just about been in this century, but that is the last I have heard of them getting any small successes.

In Penlan in the 70's our "Man from the Pru" Willie Jones was a commie.

Used to stand for elections and everything...

Skewen had a communist councillor for the best part of sixty years, God help them. That said they also had a flasher that kept making the Evening Post at one time too.

A funny lot up there.

Strange lot indeed, quite a few cardiff fans up there at one time too.

I want a mate like Flashberryjacks, who wears a Barnsley jersey with "Swans are my second team" on the back.

No they didn't keep themselves to themselves, quite the opposite in fact.

But yes, they used to tag along with the Caewern lot.

They never caused any problems in Skewen as far as i remember as it was always a staunch Swans area, and still is so i believe.

They didn't used to hang around in Skewen per se.

In my late teens, we had a long running feud with Skewen boys (nothing to do with football), quite a few just missed prison sentences for it too. And obviously with the Caewern lot but that was purely football related and went on for donkeys years.

That's the only feud I remember the Skewen lot being involved in and that became quite nasty
