Have been everywhere around us for about 6 weeks now. Even at night through small villages at 9-10pm.
Must be trying to rake some money in after lockdown.

Or maybe they have been serious accident and they are trying to discourage people from speeding. I know that road A483 like the back of my hand and ,to a trained driver or motor cyclist ,it's a good road but it can be lethal and there are villages through which cars whizz through en route to everywhere else.

Yep,Ive done plenty of speeding when I had my bikes and collected by points but it's down to the individual .Keep to the limits and you're ok.

I've driven that road a few times and I'm always surprised by the number of "speeders" who hurtle past me. Bikers seem to love a bit of it.

On a side note, Newtown is nice.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Newtown quite a busy town that is always choked with traffic. Now with the by pass it is much better or was the last time I used it. Ironically I did the Wirral Swansea A 483 route for 40 years and t always took the same time.In a car, tedious. On a bike ,terrific,as ,say, leaving Newtown and towards Dolfor you can open it up and fly past cars . Sadly ,I no longer return to Swansea .

I reported ,on t'other site of the time it took me once to get to Swansea on my last bike which was a 1100 Blackbird. I had my daughter on the bike and she'd be young teen,I guess.

We left Wirral at 8am and reached Cadle just past 11. Phoned wife and she asked me where we were and I got pelters. I was self employed then . Im not proud but daughter enjoyed it anyway. Being advanced M/C I did slow down for 30 mph. It's on the national peed limit you could "make progress".

We've all sinned Father

Police don't operate speed cameras here, seems to fall on local councils.

OK I've changed it.

I am talking about further down, villages near Builth, Llanwrtyd. They are there from morning til late night at the moment, moving the vans from village to village.
Where does the money go for speeding fines?
Where does the money go that you pay when sent on a speed awareness course?

By the way, I haven't been done.

It goes to the Government consolidated fund for general expenditure. It then goes to the DoT for distribution.

I know that bit and ,as I ay,it's great for a bike blast but it IS dangerous and local kid are at risk.

Thanks for a respectful reply mate

The roads can be dangerous if you don't know them.
Summer time brings deaths most weekends for bikers unfortunately.

Me and a number of friends are up that way on the 18th, I'll warn them to drive carefully, and watch their speed.

I know Ken.
Ive lost a few biker chums myelf.

A 483 was always full of sunday bikers when we used to go to Swansea for games.Sadly, the middle aged often fail to realise today' bikes are a world away from what we thought of a fast like Norton Commandos or BSA Goldstars.

Most 250 s now would blow away a Bonneville of the 60s.

It's all about what you hit when you come off.If you hit something solid you die,if you do not and can roll you have a chance.

It would IMO be far better to have fixed speed camera emplacement(s) along with LED speed displays of type you tend to see near to schools i.e. of specification/model that tells the driver what speed he/she is actually driving at. Decent law abiding drivers tend to automatically become very speed/safety aware and conscientious when they see that technology on display.

Most people are not boy-racers and in all fairness cannot look at the speed dial every yard of a journey and uphill climbs and steeper gradients do rather give the illusion of travelling at a lower speed.

IMO all camera locations should be accompanied with these LED speed displays so that drivers will then automatically associate them speed camera technology and a possible speeding ticket penalty. The plus side it’ll stop people slamming on their brakes.

Of course the downside of that will be loss of sneaky “fishing in goldfish bowl” revenue raising effect.

A mate of mine lost his life on that road, just north of crossgates.

A few months after buying a new motorbike, went off the road and hit a tree.

A cracking biking road but very dangerous

I know, used to ride it most weekends, one of my favourite parts of the country to ride.

We would meet up in the cafe at Crossgates, head over to Devils Bridge via the Elan valley, then on to Aber, then ride the a44 back to Crossgates.

For a bit more fun on the way back to Swansea we would peel off and ride to Beulah on the other road.

All localish to me. Crossgates cafe makes a fortune from Sunday bikers, as does the one on Aber seafront.

Speed limits should always be variable based on time.

In built up areas 30mph is fine. Outside schools should be 20mph, but only when schools are open, instead of perpetually 20mph as now in Swansea which is stupid. A lot of 40mph roads are perfectly safe at 50mph when quiet. Motorways should have no speed limits at all. Does the Germans no harm.

On the flip side I've seen some national speed limit roads which should never be that. Winding country lanes with a 60 mph limit which is mental.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Tree cutting everywhere yes. Which is rather handy as they seem to leave logs everywhere a few metres long for the people with logburners to then go and chainsaw them up. I havent paid for logs yet.

You mean BAMBI's Richie? Born again middle aged bikers.

My brother in law is one of those. When he was younger he had a 750. Roll forward 20 years he went out and got a Ducati 960, not having had a bike for a long while. He was out in Brecon with his mates one Boxing day and came off, ended up in Merthyr hopsital. My sister didn't drive so rang me to ask if I'd go get him. His head took most of the collision so there was no more damage to be done!

He changed the Ducati for a BMW 1200 tourer.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

I was told if they are stacked you can't take them but if left as they fell then its considered poor form not to help yourself .
