If it is an inguinal hernia, which I had, the recovery was not too bad, but there is a limit put on heavy lifting and driving, because of the Clutch & Brake operation.
I had the open surgury version with a Mesh in Singleton, not the key hole version, which has a much shorter recuperation period.
The surgeon said I would have a "small" incision, it turned out 7" long, the area around it feels very odd.

Cheers for that 👍

I had a strangulated hernia whilst at university aged 19. I got it diving off the top board in the university swimming pool trying and failing to impress a young lady. Emergency operation, a week in Singleton and a few weeks recuperating.

I had a hiatus hernia repair six years ago in Singleton aged 58. Keyhole surgery and local (spinal) anaesthetic so awake throughout. 24 hours in hospital and watching the Swans at the Liberty 36 hours after the op.

Had an inguinal hernia repair in 2009. Other guy had same op and left same day. I stayed the night in some discomfort and left in the morning. I was, foolishly perhaps, back in the gym within 10 days, but first 3 or 4 were pretty rough. Walking and rising from bed painful.
It was keyhole surgery, by the way.

But a month recovery seems too long to be honest. A fortnight should see you right.

Hope it goes smoothly for you, which I'm sure it will.

Mine was part of a Saturday morning conveyor system that they set up to carry out 6-12 ops one after the other.
The worst part was that I had a bad reaction to the anesthetic and it caused retching after I came round, which was very painful.

10 years ago my GP gave me the choice on whether to have the op or not.

He said some of his patients had not thanked him for sending them for the op. This put me off. My brother had post op problems as well and so, 10 years later, I still haven't had it done.

I got mine through trying to move heavy furniture up a narrow staircase.

Never again ☹️
