I think the question is perfectly pertinent at this present time doc Id go for Wagner, he knows the league, his teams play decent football and more to the point we have winter as chief executive.

Got sacked from Schalke after an 18 match winless run including an 8-0 loss, prior to that was sacked by Huddersfield after guiding them to rock bottom of the league 8 points adrift after spending nigh on £50m. Understand he got Huddersfield promoted via the playoffs on penalties (finishing on a similar amount of points that Cooper is heading for), then rode the wave keeping them up in 16th place. But taking everything into account, it doesn’t inspire me with confidence to be honest. But maybe I’m wrong.

Agreed. People need to understand what we are working with. So my question is, if there is little to no money to spend and we have to rely on youth and youth type loans... who would I rather be in charge. For me it’s easy. Cooper isn’t perfect, far from it. But with what we have he seems to be our best option. Contrary to what people may think, we don’t have a very good squad and we don’t have very good finances. Compare this squad to the one we went up with. Williams, Britton, Sinclair, Borini, Dyer, Allen, Rangel... it’s incomparable. They all comfortably had careers at the top level, I can’t think of too many of our players that will have that accolade.

| If Cooper is out........ on 00:02 - Apr 3 with 2110 views | Badlands | Cooper has devastated a good squad. Didn't know what what to to with fast wide players, kept brining in his kids, no idea about tactics or game management. Looks like he's holding his energy fora f it’s bump and adulation from all his fans who keep saying. We win ugly and look at the table. Curtis had said many times, play well and you will win games. But the opposite is more relevant, play bad.y and you will lose most games. I'd be looking to replace him even if it meant players taking over for the rest of the season. | |

I do enjoy these overreaction posts. So it was just a 'good' squad, not a great one for this level? That suggests that it wasn't good enough to stand toe to toe with the squads of Norwich, Watford, Bournemouth etc then? Then hes apparently gone and 'devastated' this good but not great squad. So how are we third in the league with 8 games remaining? Surely a 'good' squad that's experienced 'devastation' should be practically fighting relegation?

Oh but promotion was lucky in those days and keeping Hudds (of all teams) up was "riding a wave" This is the facking Matt Gaetz of Brisbane the facking welly.

Better than scared to play football cooper style. Cooper is very lucky as we have a very good defence which is the reason we are where we are. We need a manager with balls, a manager who isn't afraid to attack, Wagner has shown he can do that. There could be an up and coming young manager who is cheap and will fit that bill but it could all go pete tong ala cooper, we could get an experienced manager, doubt it because he would cost and we all know the yanks won't spend. What a quandary eh.

Is it though? That’s the point, we don’t know. I wouldn’t say Cooper is lucky to have such a good defence, it wasn’t an accident, he brought in half of it and his tactics are very much defence focussed. Which although recognised as a strength Is at the same time criticised as an issue. Should we go more attacking that good defence will be sacrificed somewhat. As for Coopers reign, first year we finished 6th, this year we are likely to finish higher. It’s all about hitting expectations and your views on how we are doing are going to be revolving around that. I didn’t expect to make the play offs last year, I think we did very well to make them. This year I thought we may do and looks like we will. I never thought we would be 3rd in April that’s for sure. But you are right. Once Cooper goes it’s a huge quandary where we go from there. We won’t have the budget for a big name who will also no doubt want some spending guarantees and inexperience is always a gamble. Rangel is the only one that springs to mind and that’s scraping the barrel, simply down to the fact he would presumably be within our budget, knows the club and commands respect. But that would be a huge gamble. He may be the worst manager in the world, who knows.

I don’t think we will need a big budget for a manager whenever Cooper does go. As a stepping stone, managing a championship club is massive exposure for any young manager. Do well and he’s going to get snapped up by a bigger club. I don’t think they’ll go down the Rangel route. It’s too much of an unknown. A Wagner type is more likely, I can’t see him, as an example, being in a position to price us out with salary demands.

I was careful to say a big name would likely want some cash to spend. Of course a younger manager wanting to prove himself won't demand that as much, but that is what we have now. If we can appoint someone in that bracket, who in their first season gets us into the play-offs and then takes us to still being in the automatic hunt come March the following season - we would all regard that as a very risky gamble that paid off.
