Connor Roberts, please don’t be the new Richard Duffy 3rd Sep 2021 09:00
Swansea City academy product Connor Roberts turned down a new three year contract with his home town club to take on the premier league with Burnley on deadline day. Despite efforts before he chose to move away from the swans the club couldn’t change his mind. He wanted to be tested at the highest levels of English football. 1

I think Roberts has made a good choice.
Burnley is exactly the type of club that will suit him - a 'home town' outfit with local fans who would love to win the league or a trophy but know that's probably not going to happen; a club where a fluffed pass or missed chance doesn't lead to endless media scrutiny and abuse.
Like many of our heroes, we consider his talents to be far more advanced than others do.
At his age this could be the last chance to play in the PL. Two failed play off bids and a manager determined to replace most of the current squad will have sharpened his focus and caused him to look at his future with his head not his heart.
Despite our thoughts PL managers have not considered him a target to pursue despite his stellar performances Wales, a shop window far greater than the Championship.
No one should deny him or criticise him for looking after Connor Roberts, he has more than paid his dues to his local club.

There was a story going around a while back that he was a little jealous his mates from the under 23's were all on big bucks after leaving the Swans. Plain as day why he has gone now.
Blinking shame but he is history until he isn't. I think we have more than adequate cover for now so let's hope the transfer market further deteriorates.

The lad is nor dumb
He has looked around and assessed if our clib/owners have a plan to get back to the highest level.
He's also looked at the manager of Burnley and looked at his track record ,the loyalty of the players to him and even the fans ,who are unbelievably proud of their club . They are in close proximity to the meg clubs so they support their own home town club.

Remember that when you see the Liverpool,Man Utd,Arse,Spurs tops around Swansea. Remember the Swansea denizens at the games at the Liberty in the AWAY end

More than likely he looked at the money and who can blame him. It was a big wrench for him to leave the club and it was the money that softened the blow. At 25 the next contract was the one to secure his future financially, IMO he left for financial reasons only and Burnley just happened to be the club who offered the deal. Thanks for the memories CR and good luck for the future YJB.

Well he won't be on big bucks at Burnley that's for sure so he's gone there for PL football and as BL has said, Burnley will suit him, he will become a fans favourite imo.

Not big bucks compared to Dan James no, but certainly a lot more than he was getting here.

We'll se in time if Burnely were the right club for him but none of us can blame him for taking this chance, it may never have come again and as Badlands says, he's done his time here and given good service.

Good luck Connor.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Any footballer / sports person would want to play at the highest level.
Connor can obviously see what's happened at our club since the owners took over, and most likely thinks he will be too old if we get there in years to come.
He always gave 100% every time he stepped onto the pitch. That can't be said of lots of others.
Money - of course he will get some more, but can't see Burnley giving him more that £25 30 grand a week, if that.
Bloody good luck to him. A fine servant.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

I don't blame any footballer for maximising his career.
Roberts has given plenty for our cause and it's always better to leave an Employer under good terms and be dignified about it .

This is where Clucas was so badly advised.

I believe £25-£30K a week will gross him over £2M more than he was earning here, over the length of his contract. In fairness he was offered a new contract, but for how much, who knows.
