It’s very well timed, the arrival of Johnson junior failed to take the focus away from the sleaze and Boris Johnson is under huge pressure. The only way he can stave off a significant back bench rebellion and take the focus off his gaffs is Covid.
What he’s asking for is huge, curtailing the vaccination programme by a month and in December when people are on leave, 3 bank holidays etc is massive. Offering a jab is not the same as giving the vaccine, you can be offered the appointment in December but have it in January.

Everyone will have the "opportunity" to book a vaccine, but it'll be a bun fight to see who actually gets vaccinated as the infrastructure will be overwhelmed.

If you don't have a stretching target you will never achieve anything. Why wait until the end of January to offer everyone a booster if we can bring it forward.
Remember last January nobody believed we would meet the target of getting adults vaccinated by the end of July. In the end it was done early. | |

If Labour had the balls to vote against the plan B measures this week he'd be toast. Combined with the dozens of Tory rebels voting against they'd have enough for the government to lose the vote, which would go some way to destroying what's left of Boris' credibility.

Labour voters are more likely to be impacted by the health implications of covid so they'd be harming their own support.
