I remember reading that MPs are more likely to have a criminal conviction than the general population.

It’s wonderful he’s in prison and quite right too. In fairness to the Labour Party when their MPs are convicted of wrongdoing they tend to kick them out. When it’s the tories they try and change the law.

An MP in 2010 was 4 times more likely to have a criminal record than a member of the general public. For reasons of balance, Aa least 55 Labour MPs, Councillors and Mayors have been arrested, charged, suspended, or placed under investigation in the first 6 months of 2021.

I wonder how many MPs, councillors and mayors across the political spectrum?

At the MP level, the Labour Party and Conservatice party are probably neck and neck over the last 15 years. Some very prominent and rich Conservatives in that list. I did enjoy Kane and Abel though.

Whether they are Labour, Tory, or other, if they have done bad like that they should be locked up. Agree?

I’m not defending Owen Paterson or condoning or diminishing the seriousness of abuse of expenses, lobbying and parliamentary rules (obviously a scumbag) but he has to date not been charged of anything (although he probably should) and I think we’d all agree that raping children is a far more serious offence.

I don’t disagree. It’s another example of cherry picking. I just don’t understand people who support parties/politicians in the same way I support the Swans. Blind to their failings and when not doing well, point to Cardiff and say “what about them?”

He’s been convicted of serious offences and definitely deserves porridge at HMP’ leisure. Ahmed quit the Labour Party 2 days before he was scheduled to appear before the Labour Party National Executive Committee in relation to anti Semitic remarks he was alleged to have made. If we are talking about sleaze and sexual misconduct, what about Rob Roberts MP who was suspended from Parliament for 6 weeks, had his membership of the Conservative Party suspended and who was subsequently reinstated in October. Sadly, a significant number of our politicians on all sides of the house are sleaze bags and I dare say there are far more incidents such as the above have gone unreported. I suspect the next time the Conservatives are out of power and no longer wield significant influence we may see more allegations emerge. The police should be allowed to do their work without any external interference.

Another noble cause “lost” in parliament. Google Geoffrey Dickens MP. A conservative but one to be proud of. At least he tried.
