| Cardiff Swansea pre game thread. Why. 09:47 - Mar 17 with 1643 views | onehunglow | Why is this game not selected for tranmission. Cant remember the last time it wasn't. I have chums here (honestly) to look forward to OIR big game. It IS seen as a significant derby game country wide and is always a feisty ,tasty interesting game, one of the best for a neutral to watch. It raises profiles of both cities too. I have my own answers as to why but jut wondering if others felt the same. TRY TO STICK TO TOPIC ----------------------------- | |

| Cardiff Swansea pre game thread. Why. on 10:18 - Mar 17 with 1609 views | DwightYorkeSuperstar | It's really not seen as a "significant derby" outside of the area. I'm not sure it raises the profile of either city. Do you think, for example, the profile of the city of Norwich is raised because 50,000 or so people who already know where the city is located watch them play Ipswich on television twice a year? Outside of our 'bubble', it's just another game. Hopefully it is picked up for broadcast as the money is significant at this level. | |

Disagree here Dwight. It always gets a mention from commentators as it did on the red button last night. As Keith said, it’s a tasty, well attended game which any neutral football fan would watch because if the well documented rivalry. Absolutely puzzled as to why it’s not in Sky. What are your views OHL? [Post edited 17 Mar 2022 12:29]

Daily Mail - May 2014 …. ‘Forget Manchester United against Liverpool or Chelsea versus Arsenal - the South Wales derby between Swansea and Cardiff was the most watched game on American TV last season. US broadcasters NBC paid £148million ($250million) to show every Premier League game live in the United States and Swansea's 3-0 win over Cardiff on February 8 attracted 1.24million viewers. Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony scored in the win that marked Garry Monk's first game in charge of the Swans following Michael Laudrup's sacking. Champions Manchester City feature just once in the top 10 most watched games, their 4-1 derby win over rivals Manchester United in September. United may have finished outside the top three for the first time in over two decades, but they proved they are still a pull Stateside as they had four of the most watched games in the top 10.‘ And I think that proves OHL is correct … 🦢😇

Does it? Are NBC showing the fixture this season? I doubt it, which suggests the draw was the English Premier League rather than the rivalry between Cardiff and Swansea. Back in 2020, the fixture was only the 7th most watched televised Championship match at the time it aired in February. https://www.google.com/amp/s/w Just because media websites may write an article or two praising the fixture in the days leading up to the match, it does not necessarily translate to national or even international interest. Swansea, Cardiff and most other teams outside of the English Premier League are an afterthought. It's why whichever commentator gets assigned to our matches each week parrot the usual, out of date nonsense about us being a "well run club", who play "attractive football" etc. They rarely watch us play. We're a small club playing in a second tier league, as are Cardiff.

Boith our clubs are seen a proper clubs ,small or not,as you see them. Cardiff ,face it,is a capital city and it has a large fan base with fans all over the world. Swansea reawakened many in the game in the way we came to the Premier League. Many of my Red/Blue chums were staggered to see us exit as we did. We are both infinately bigger and of more significance than the likes of Bournemouth and Brentford ,for example. For is not to be screened should be a wake up call to those who think we are transitioning into something better. So,dwight,my opinion is ,in this instance you are very wrong.

The result has nothing hinging on it other than bragging rights ( possibility of a double vs Cardiff chance to restore some pride after mullering in October ). Very little to appeal to those outside the two fan bases. This is reflected also in the fact that our allocation has not yet sold out ? The other thing is many have access to streams etc, nowadays. Built up to be a bigger game than it is. Shame it's a bubble still, due to a sizeable minority of little ( and not so little ) boys wanting to show how tough they are

It's a big one for our fan bases. Not much interest outside that ATM due to the fact that both sides are having an unextrodinary season

Nothing wrong with a one off dog fight of a football match. Hibs and Hearts, Newcastle and Sunderland, Villa and Birmingham, Forest and Derby, Brizzle City and the Gas, all can throw up some old fashioned football excitement. Much better than a sterile game of chess type game between Fulham and Leicester, say. The people that know their football will defo watch them vs us. Sure to be fun and games.

Add the fact that neither team is playing particularly attractive brand of football which would attract the neutral, hoof ball vs tipi tapi across the back 4. Riveting viewing.

We can beat Cardiff with something to spare. However ,a you say, with Fisher with are always vulnerable and liable to gift goals that see us then unfold and destroy all the good things. There is no need to pick Fisher,There is no need to dump Hamer. There is no need to stroke the ball to attackers in your own penalty box. We quite this crap and we move on. Maybe ,we can actually be brave and go at these from the off and utilise the magnificent Piroe and superkeen Obe. There should be no need for us to be fearful at all.

Official coaches leave 10.45. This means most people have to be down there by 10.00. For a journey 40 mins away. Madness
