| Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back. |

The Tories have not so much shot themselves in the foot as fired a full magazine in and then reloaded with that budget. Even if, and it's a big IF, an economic case can be made for it (there's plenty of evidence to suggest that cutting some tax rates actually increases revenues. but the economy isn't exactly booming) from an optics standpoint alone the whole bankers bonus thing has probably been worth five points on its own to Labour in the opinion polls. Starmer must be rubbing his hands with glee. There's a good chance we could go from one landslide to another. [Post edited 28 Sep 2022 7:00]

| Who is going to keep their job longer? on 21:44 - Sep 27 with 2603 views | majorraglan | It appears that anyone with any credibility or experience in economics is criticising what Kwarteng and Truss have done. There are a few cheerleaders in the Conservative press, but by enlarge Kwarteng’s budget announcements have gone down like a cold cup of sick. I read earlier that there couldn’t be a second confidence vote in the Conservative Party for another 12 months, so based on that it seems Truss is good for 12 months. Boris remains very unpopular across the country, but his presence could still be a formidable threat to Truss. If she wants to eliminate Boris as a potential threat she needs to ensure the Standards Committee Investigation proceeds, the enquiry could “do for Boris” who could easily find himself being booted out of Parliament. Looking ahead, the benefits the tax cuts deliver to most people are going to be dwarfed by increased borrowing costs, energy costs and food costs. Businesses are also going to see their borrowing costs shoot up, with less money in the pocket people won't be spending and previously viable businesses are going to go to the wall. This trickle down stuff is BS - the way things are shaping up living standards are about to crash to levels we’ve not seen for years. | | | |

Those are the rules, but the committee can change them.

Give her the Watford job and let Slavan run the country 3 points for us and the country will be in safer hands.

The idiots are coming on tv defending this idiotic move. Watching the news right now and the Old lady of Threadneedle has had to make emergency moves to help the economy. The rises in interest rates for government borrowing are as much in 2 days as in 30 years previously. Andrew Griffith, treasury minister, saying we must grow the economy but what about the cost of living, what about mortgage rates, what about the costs of government borrowing?

It’s madness, strikes me as he’s been rolled out to defend the indefensible. I’m all in favour of tax cuts and reasonable taxation but this bonkers. Sunak told her during the debates that what she was proposing was madness but she’s gone and done it anyway. Sterling has been smashed and some pension providers nearly went through today. We’re borrowing a load of cash with the intention of mainly giving it away to the people who don’t need it, if we’re going to borrow money and want to grow the economy then why not send the money on infrastructure, skills upgrades, tax breaks for buying new state of the art machinery, energy provision etc things that will deliver a long term sustainable benefit, this trickle down effect gibberish is baloney. A person earning the average wage will be £300 to £500 quid better off per year, but that’s before the increases in cost of living, energy, mortgages, car fuel etc etc, most people will easily be a couple of grand down per year - a lot of people who’ve stepped on to the property ladder in the past few years could also find themselves in massive negative equity. Truss is completely invisible at the moment, she is ultimately responsible and would have signed this off. Kwarteng and Truss have a lot of questions to answer.

It aint necessarily so Kilky. I don't think it can happen but Truss could turn it around or Starmer could do something to blow it. A week is a long time in politics. Saying home and hosed with a long way to go til the next GE is a tad premature.
