Normally would have received a ban under the totting up procedure. Take your time boy. [Post edited 25 Nov 2022 21:32]

I travel that way quite often and I've not seen a fixed so I'm guessing it's a mobile camera unit .

Last time I was up that way, I came up that road from the Brecon to Hereford rd, came down to junction and turned left heading to Builth not sure of the village and there was a speed camera van tucked in on the right hand side, was a tad concerned that I might have been travelling above the 30mph limit, but was in traffic and I haven't heard anything, no news is good news

Llyswen. They tried to have me there a few years ago. I appealed as the speed van was parked partly on the pub car park. I had the foresight to take a photo of it. Won the appeal. Since then they have had to park further along. They get thousands there.

Looks like one of those speed traps that are everything to do with generating revenue and nothing to do with road safety. Altogether too many of those. They should be prohibited. Cameras at accident blackspots only.

There's a stretch of the A419 between Cirencester and Cheltenham which is dual carriageway perfectly straight no junctions or road hazards for two miles in either direction. There's a small valley in this section so the police park vans in the dip of the valley in the hope of catching people as they come over the brow of the hill. It looks like blatant tax collection. The accidents happen further South near to the junctions around Swindon where there needs to be a speed restriction.

Was gonna say Llyswen, but I was 100% on it, I'm sure they were parked where they shouldn't have been that day to. I think if I was over 30 mph it was 1 maybe 2 mph over.

I have a lot of sympathy for 'non-boy-racer' types who are on the road all day and face a "totting up" ban because he/she has gone over the speed limit on a few occasions. Nobody can concentrate 100% of the time and imo continually looking at the speedometer can be as dangerous as looking at a mobile phone anyhow. What's the difference? I detest sneaky "fishing in a goldfish bowl" revenue raising, when for example a mobile speed camera is blatantly placed on, or close to a steep hill climb where the gradient gives an illusion of traveling at a far lower speed. Journalist Richard Littlejohn described sneaky revenue raising tactics as "jury nobbling" because it only serves to turn law abiding general public members against the police.

Then when you actually need the police because you’re being stabbed there’s none available because they’re all sitting on the side of roads vigorously milking the metaphorical udder of the motorist cash cow.

I get your point but I have to say if I had been stabbed i’d much rather see an ambulance rather than an overweight traffic cop turn up , although in today’s environment the likelihood of either is slim

I have nothing agains Trunds but he should have been told no mate, get a taxi, get a bus, get a lift or get a bike because you'll definitely get a ban. To me it should always be don't to the crime if you can't do the time. If I lost my licence would I get away with such a claim? Celebs always seem to.

If it had been for drink driving I'd agree, but its not, many, many others have got away with far worse, totting up of points is small potato's , he does it again and he's banned though and rightly so, for his own stupidity if nothing else.

That's a different argument, this was a because he's got 12 pts or more so was at risk of a 6 month ban, if that charge had been anything more serious then I'd agree and it would be a lot longer than a 6 month ban.

| Trundle on 18:31 - Nov 26 with 951 views | max936 | Loads of people speed everyday and lots speed whilst using phone as well and I don't mean hands free, its just the age we live in, most drive for themselves without a thought for others, I drive job to job daily to most area's and I see the behaviour out there, I'm not an angel myself of course and I'd be an hypocrite to say different although I have changed my driving behaviour I drive a lot slower than I used to, but still plenty of room for improvement. | |
