I was watching a piece this morning about Tut Ankh Amun (Tutankamen) and how you can see scans of his body. At the end there was a woman making a case that this is wrong, that everybody has the right of consent even if they have been dead thousands of years. Obviously that means if they cannot give consent then their body shoud not be used in certain ways, they should be left at peace.
So the question is, when does grave robbing become Archeology? How long does somebody have to be dead for it to be acceptable to dig them up?
It's difficult because I love these programmes, I love history but when are we allowed to start digging people up and in Tut's case, start using his possessions and remains for making money? |  | | |  |

I’m sure there are burial sites in this country that have been moved in order to facilitate construction, I can’t imagine anyone contemplating it if there ain’t money to be made. |
My Mrs has just brought a plot for her parents the documents say they will only have 50 years and after that the grave can be moved or used again.

Well I'm going for a green burial in a wicker basket under a freshly planted tree. I'm giving myself back to the Earth that has sustained me!
That last bit, it had crossed my mind that if there were gravestones with crosses on many of these graves wouldn't be disturbed. I think about the warships under the oceans that are declared war graves and not to be disturbed but then we dig up the poppy fields of France. There are double standards all over the place. | | | |

A lot of the French fields are working farm land.
We had the right idea after Waterloo, they put the dead horses on a pile, put the soldiers bodies on top and burnt the lot. | |
