| 9 years to payback EV CO2 on 08:36 - Jun 6 with 2354 views | onehunglow | This is very interesting and significant. We are implored to buy EVs when the infrastructure simply isn’t there. I was speaking to n Electrical Engineer only yesterday regarding the need to increases rapidly the number of charging points. Not as simple as that as ,right now, the electrical infrastructure, the National Grid couldn’t can’t take it. I won’t be buying one anyway. 2030.hmm | |

The National Grid right through to the local distribution network isn't up to the task, just imagine trying recharge at a motorway services fir example .The changing point roll out ATM can't keep pace with current demand nor will do for the foreseeable future, like we were told when persuaded to move over to diesel, what a rip off that was supply and demand meant a cost rise which suddenly meant we had to pay for a fuel which previously was cheaper than petrol

That’s what he told me exactly. Next month we re on a long trip and doing it in an EV would make me feel very anxious . I am simply not mentally attuned it though I supposed I should be as it’s the future. But is it?

Exactly. we can see how busy forecourts are at times with queues to fill up with petrol, diesel etc. Filling up takes just minutes now, can we imagine the queues to charge vehicles. You are correct. Diesel is far cheaper to produce and can supply more diesel from a barrel of oil than can motor spirit

Typical of our Government in trying to be the leading light in trying to save the planet, the reality of it is that we are a tiny spot on the World map, China, Russia, India and USA are massive polluters, so us trying to lead the way will make little difference, and another reality in all of this is costing the Uk taxpayer more and more money. I wonder how many MP's have an interest in these companies charged with trying to reduce our carbon footprint. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Green energy is getting a huge focus, the reduction in biodiversity gets little attention. Plastics some but a lot less focus, look at the amount of plastic in EVs. The biodiversity impacts caused by modern agricultural methods are arguably more damaging than climate change because we are going to end up with whole ecosystems failing. But, there are no cars, solar panels, wind turbines or heat pumps to sell on the back of preserving whole ecosystems.

Virtually everything is being made of plastic, lots of new Boilers have mainly plastic internals and will break down with the heat and be replaced with another plastic internal part, only thing they can't really make out of plastic for now at least it the heat exchangers, a lot of gas parts are made of plastic, some boilers even have plastic casings, Its all about money all of it, we are being hoodwinked.

And everything on this thread has been said many times BUT, even more people are saying these things now. The UK drive for green would be commendable if there was any point, it is in reality a pointless folly designed purely to tax us even more. We re being ripped off evermore every day.

An interesting fact that i had read was that EVs need to have been driven for 20,000 miles before they become carbon neutral with petrol cars. (Due to the huge emissions in production stage). Add in to that most EV batteries lifespan and the consumption of fossil fueled electricity and its not so green after all. And that is without considering the modern slavery aspect of EV production. Unfortunately there is not enough effort being made both in reaching carbon neutrality and in agriculture. I try my best to only eat organic stuff now, god knows the rubbish they are spraying and pumping into everything else.

In the OP article Volvo are saying up to 70,000 miles potentially.

| 9 years to payback EV CO2 on 21:10 - Jun 6 with 2141 views | Boundy | Another thing to consider is that in some manufactures vehicles the battery pack is half the price of a new car so with that in mind sometimes its not going to be cost effective to replace one when it fails also recently its been reported that a lot of electric cars have been scrapped after minor accidents but damage to the battery structure makes them uneconomical to repair | |

What i had read may have been out of date as i found the article again and it was from 2021. 70,000 miles is an incredible figure, would be some degredation on an EV battery by then too. EVs in my opinion are just another con. Just as much pollution with dreadful infrastructure for double the price.
