One thing that'll help some of these type of cases is the advancement of DNA science (Y-STR testing) that has progressed from the 1990's along with crime scene recovery methods for example 'Isomark Ltd' with soot removal advancement, that helps to get underlying DNA so that it can be taken to a lab to be tested. Etc, etc, etc.
A forensic review has been announced today regarding The Tooze Murders, the legendary Proffesor Angela Gallop is to work on this one according to Welsh News.
Now she is one nightmare for criminals and murderers, because she has a reputation for leaving no stone unturned, because of her meticulous nature, that goes way beyond what many would expect.

On the flip side we don’t want any innocent people going to prison either. The modern way is that someone is considered guilty by the public based on a mere accusation and that’s not right either.
It’s hard enough to get a conviction for an alleged sex assault that happened last week let alone forty years ago. The more time that passes the more the quality of evidence diminishes. People die or their memory is hazy there’s no forensics it’s very often one persons word against the other and you can’t convict on that. |  |

Must confess I haven't been following the case all that closely, but if memory serves there was one bit early on where a witness (might have been Elton John which is why it stuck in my head) was unable to confirm whether Spacey had even been at a party where an alleged assault took place.
You'd think that the Prosecution would have made absolutely sure that certain people were in certain places before even considering a charge, never mind taking it to trial. Sounds like someone screwed up. |  |

While I generally agree the problem with making a claim 20/30/40 years later is providing the evidence AND however many witnesses there are, we all know a witness statement is considered low value if its taken over 48 hours later. if 2 days means a statement can easily be unreliable how can we trust a memory or memories from decades ago?
Besides which, these days it does seem to be the case that once a claim is made a lot of eople jump on the bandwagon in the hope of being given a lot of money.
How many claims were there against Spacey? And even though he's been cleared how many people accept he's 100% innocent? | | | |

I think the first para covers that, mostly. Even so these days people make the claims then rush off to seel their story to whichever media outlet will pay the most.
Obviously there are genuine cases where no financial gain is sought but still, if a case is iver 20 years old ho can any witness be trusted, what state is any eidene in? it becomes one word against another and how can a fair conviction be obtained like that?
These days an accusation is tantamount to a convition on social media. Trial by the massed hordes of internet demons prevails and if they decide you are guilty, no matter the evidence, that's your lot and your career is ruined. | | | |
