Swans v Blues : Chris Davies under real pressure this weekend 16th Jan 2026 12:17
Swansea City take on Birmingham City tomorrow evening at the swansea.com stadium (5:30pm) and there seems to be a lot riding on this game. The Blues head coach, Chris Davies is having a torrid time trying to get results despite beating Coventry City last time out in the league. 0

I wont forget at least 20% of their crowd slowly disappearing from the 80th minute at their place in September, i bet they regretted leaving early.

I do hope we carry on the good form from the WBA game but we need to put our chances away.

Let’s hope we pile more on Chrissy boy but to do that we need as we all know be more clinical in the box , too many times in the WBA game that the opportunity to shot was wasted by indecision.

Score more than two goals and that almost certainly will return the points.

We’ve been stating it for weeks. No.

Exactly. We have created enough chances each game, all we need to do is finish properly.

Thought a number of the long range shots were overly ambious, all for shot just outside the area but I thought we could have worked the ball closer at times but in that second half we started to force or rush things instead of showing a calmness in the final third.
Good game of football, their keeper pull of a fantastic save off Franco's strike unless I am mistaken
Birmingham movement was excellent but so was our defending, yes we did drop a bit deep which meant any good possession by the forwards needed more forward movement from deep to support and go beyond them.

Disappointed to not get the three points we deserved.
Fulton off the pitch when they scored had a very good game as protection against their runs from midfield

There are nice partnerships developing Ronald, Franco and Galbraith on the right and Eom, Tymon and Widell on the left, I thought Widell was top notch.

Widell is slowly becoming one of the first names on the team sheet. His work rate is incredible.

Good synopsis but I’m not as happy with the defence as you seem to be. I thought we left much you much space for them today.

Second half,Our substitutions blunted us a bit and Brum pushed on ,we just kept giving them the ball out wide and in midfield , Fulton saved us in numerous occasions today because Brum had their tails up for long periods ,also we stopped pressing even with fresh legs on and were setting up deeper trying to see the game out
It didn’t work last week and it didn’t work this week , let’s hope we learn from it and don’t let it happen again

His work in the press is so, so good.

Don't think we've seen even a fraction of what he's capable of creatively. You get the impression that once the first goal goes in there may be a glut of them.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Our defence was ok tonight, it was the midfield who tired in patches which left the space.fir them.

He runs around a lot. That’s not in dispute. But as for being “one of the first names on the team sheet?” Hardly.

If he can start to turn his energy and enthusiasm into something that is actually productive then we might have a player on our hands. Meanwhile he’s got a lot to learn. Running around a lot like a Jack Russell on heat isn’t going to cause too many problems for opponents in this League.

I rate Cullen a lot higher than most on here, but not up front on his own. Once he comes on as a centre forward, nothing is going to stick, meaning we won’t be able to get players up and around him and force opponents back.

The consequence of that is exactly what you describe. Sitting deeper, opponents getting their tails up, losing control of the game and eventually being happy with a point when we’d dominated for an hour.

This is going to keep happening until…

We bring in a loan striker
Idah recovers
Matos trusts Wales up front and Wales justifies it.

I’m not sure Wales could do that role either. He’s taller than Cullen, but doesn’t seem physically equipped to battle with centre backs.

Leaving Vipotnik on for 90 minutes every game isn’t going to work either. It will burn him out.

The improvement in Widell since August is astounding. I agree, he’s very much on an upward trajectory.

People complained a lot about not signing a Lewis O’Brien type in the summer. We saw bits of that from both Widdell and Franco yesterday. Tussling to nick balls off opponents, winning the battle then immediately driving into gaps themselves or looking to play our wingers in. Much easier to attack a defence when they don’t have time to set

Also worth pointing out that the team looks a lot better and more attacking/aggressive when our midfield doesn't comprise of three central midfielders all trying to do essentially the same job.

We always needed a presence pushing forward into the attacking third, something Sheehan forgot.

Cullen would be the better option to get that goal around the box but we couldn't get in the box with him up top alone.

In the first half while we were dominating, I thought it would be the perfect game for him.

But you’d probably have to leave Widdell out and on current form, that’s not an option.

We need to get to the stage where substitutions are interchangeable and don’t weaken us. I don’t actually think we’re too far off it. We need someone to share the load up front though.

A young and hungry on loan striker would definitely do that.
