The UK and France have agreed a new 3 year deal to assist the control of cross-channel migration. It consists of a base deal of about the same value as the previous deal (about £500m), plus another £160m dependent on meeting certain targets. The Government has so far not explained the conditionality, but this appears to fall short of the Home Secretary’s wish that the interception rate should increase from about 34% of small boat launches to over 70%. This deal takes funding since 2022 to over a billion GBP, and the sum since deals started in 2018 to over £1.5b. In the 2018-2025 period an estimated 193,000 undocumented immigrants have crossed the channel. When you factor in what these cost after arrival the total bill isn’t cheap. Do board members think this is a worthwhile deal?

We have to bear in mind we aren't in a strong position to negotiate. France don't have to do anything to stop them leaving and don't have to take them back.
At least some of the funding is related to a reduction in number of those attempting to cross and sees a dramatic increase in patrol staff numbers. So overall it's a better deal than the existing one.
I also saw a graph this morning showing the numebr of those crossing is fewer than previous years. Perhaps something is working? | | | |

I think UK and France have agreed general figures. If you recall last winter there's was a one month cessation not necessarily related to the weather and unexplained. I interpreted this as the French taking action to prevent the overall numbers not exceed projections.
How would this work? The French tell the smugglers no action for one month and they agree. It is a joint venture by general understandings at high level. Where the money goes few know.
The UK Government want to show a drop in numbers not a complete shut down. The French understand this..

I warned about the dangers caused by the abandonment of border control and security vetting many years in advance. In fact I would guess that the majority on here would have been extremely worried about the bleeding-bloody-obvious repercussions of, also.
A foreigner can commit murder in his own country and escape justice by getting onto a small boat and throwing away I.D, to then be assisted by U.K government, (how warped!) legal system, ECHR, lawyers and NGO accessories, whom will aid and abette killers via Westminster etc collaboration.
A case of allowing a person to create a new alias, whilst providing state funded assistance to help a killer to get away with murder.

Horrendous reporting over the Brighton rape case and what that victim endured , will be scarred for life and the rapists claim they cannot speak English , need an interpreter then need legal aid to fight their cause in Court .

The man is scum.
But there is a big caveat - he was convicted in absence AFTER getting here. So he wasn't walking around the streets as a convicted murderer with anyones knowledge until he was arrested and put on remand.
