and are Zimbabweans better off now than they were under Smithy
I see few ex colonial countries better off for the native and there are various reasons for that many of which would lead to unpleasantness on here so I ll butt out .

I think we re on the same wave length though
Rhodesia was unique in that she had two full growing seasons. Nowhere else on earth was so blessed by a conjunction of soil and climate as favourable.
It takes a special kind of malignant incompetence to starve people there.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.
Not advocating a white dominated regime by any means. That is totally unacceptable, but the country was known as "the bread basket of Africa" before RG took over. He destroyed the country in so many ways.

And to think some bunch of thick f*ckers thought it a good idea to put his name forward as "Goodwill ambassador for the world health organisation"
We ve invaded many countries for regime change but Rhodesia was THE one that would have been justified
A great country torn asunder
So ......you think that rule from Westminster is best for tbe black people of Africa, because ,well, they cannot rule themselves - is that about right ?
It sounds incredible to me, so i am just checking...?
Hopefully and end to the socialist marxist experiment in Zimbabwe that has turned it from being one of the richest countries in Africa to just about the poorest. Zimbabwe use to feed Africa exporting vast amounts of food. Since Mugabe seized the farm and gave them to his cronies most now are abandoned and producing nothing. The farm workers have all lost their jobs. The heath service which was once one of the best in no so bad even Mugabe has his treatment abroad.

This coup isn't spontaneous and if you think it will see the end of the red you're in for a rude awakening. Radio 4 is this morning reporting that former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa is likely to take up the reins. I doubt many on here will have heard of him, allow me to fill in the blanks...
Mnangagwa was ousted from his position last November, probably for having looked at Mugabe or his mental wife in the wrong way, and fled to China in fear of his life. Now this wasn't his first visit to China, he'd been there in the '60s to undergo terrorist training from the red then was sent back to Rhodesia to put into practice what he had learned. He proved pretty hapless in the field and the Rhodesian Light Infantry put him in the bag and gaoled him, where he remained until the 1980 transition.
Now the red is sending him back once more to do its bidding. The scale of Chinese investment into the former Rhodesia is vast, it's physical presence on the ground in terms of manpower is growing exponentially. In effect Rhodesia is being recolonised at a rate of knots. This time around it won't be the benign parentalism of British rule it will be the enslavement of communist despotism.
Mark my words, watch this space....

I first became aware of Northern Rhodesia at school when we received a new pupil with an odd accent that strangled vowels.
In Plod, one of troops was an ex superintendent from Bulawayo ,who came to us a a probationer ,whom I thought was racist beyond belief ,but I began to see his point .
He predicted exactly what s happened almost to the letter .
I wasn't a fan of colonialism ,as a concept, but ,to ,e, most African countries seem incapable of running their countries.
Afrikaaners too predicted South Africa s demise although they are not a race aim keen on . I loathe them ,in fact
