| The future of the Cockett Inn in doubt ... on 21:44 - Mar 12 with 738 views | FieryJack | Very depressing news. Often used to take a 10 minute walk over to the Cockett from Townhill (there being f all pubs left on the estate). It's semi-rural location was a big part of it's charm - it almost felt like a country pub. And the real ale there was quality (unlike in many other Swansea pubs). Would also call in a lot on the way down from visiting friends in Cefn Coed (no jokes please). Staff, and the odd patient, would drop in too. Only slight downside was that it sometimes felt a bit cliquey to me. The social/cultural fabric of this country is feckin falling to bits, and successive governments have done naff all to try and stop it. All in all, a crying shame. | | | |

Well if you can’t hear what people are saying in The Vivs you can always pop over to ‘The Bush’.

I agree, it's very sad that what was once an integral part of society is apparently dying out. Social cohesion is going with it. I only ever went to the Cockett for darts or pool but I used to know a few of the locals, worked with one or two (Ginger Keith, was a postman and ex RN, does he still go?) but pubs provided a vital meeting place for the more vulnerable amongst us. If you lived by yourself but drank in your 'local' if something happened, if you weren't there someone would notice.
