The build up
Wales will be looking to keep hold of top spot in their UEFA Nations League group when they take on Republic of Ireland at the Leckwith place on Sunday..
Wales are top of League B Group 4 with two rounds of fixtures to play, one point clear of Finland, while the Republic of Ireland are out of contention for promotion. Scoring goals is becoming a major issue for Wales, having now played out two goalless draws in their last three matches and scored just three times in their last six games. When those goals have arrived, they have been in the final 10 minutes of games, earning late victories over Finland in Helsinki and Bulgaria home and away. All that matters, though, is that Wales top their group ahead of back-to-back home encounters with Republic of Ireland and Finland. With Finland favourites to beat Bulgaria in Sofia on Sunday, it may well come down to a final game shootout in near the dual carriageway next week for promotion to League A. Not that any of this is confusing. Finishing top is out of the question for the Republic of Ireland, having failed to win any of their four matches so far in this latest edition of the competition.

Everyone who has been born in Ireland is Irish, that’s never in question, that is apart from 97% of them who were born in the USA. We have mentioned this before. Americans are very lucky they can choose where they are from on Mondays and Fridays, but not on Sundays, it’s the 42nd amendment which Joe Biden, who is unquestionably Irish supports. For many this is all a load of hot Eire, for Tony he needed to find a get out so he told everyone he wasn’t Irish, but thought he was. He blamed his mother for adopting him and then started supporting England which is near France.

Joe Malone
Italian American politician in Massachusetts who won terms as State Treasurer in the 1990s and tried to run for Congress. Now a successful businessman, most Bostonian Irish assumed he was of their heritage and he never sought to dissuade them, but he was one of seven children of Italian American parents.
John Kerry, US Secretary of State
Kerry is a practicing Catholic from Massachusetts but his family's roots lie in Judaism. His grandfather Fritz Kohn and Fritz's brother Otto were living in Vienna in 1901 when, suffering greatly under the anti-Semitism that prevailed in Europe, Fritz decided to shed his Jewish-sounding name. He dropped a pencil on a map of Ireland and it landed on County Kerry. Fritz changed his name to Frederick Kerry.
Boston Irish folk are all Irish, in fact they even put on an Irish accent, which makes them really Irish, they also sing about being Irish and when you put all these things together you have a cultural melting pot of mental illness, which is never a good thing. Psychologist Martin Turps has written in depth about the American fixation with everything that isn’t American and discloses that in Boston this desire to be Irish actually does cause psychological problems. Especially when real Irish people tell them, you are not Irish, you fool. Boston Irish choose not to identify with anything other than the stereotype that is leprechauns and drinking. They have Irish bars in Boston and once when a real Irishman went in to one of those bars they shot him because everyone got confused.

Harry Ferguson invented the tractor’s original Ferguson System in 1926. It has the same basic design for modern tractors used today. Known as The Mad Mechanic, Ferguson also invented his own plane, race car and motorcycle. He was the first Irish man to fly in 1909. He also built the very first 4-wheeled Formula-One car.
James Martin (not the cooking bloke)
There were previous versions of ejector seats, but it was Sir James Martin’s invention that allowed pilots to eject from planes that moved at high speeds. The first live test of his ejector seat occurred in July 1946 and it was a success. An explosion blew away the cockpit and a second blast pushed the pilot out of the plane that allowed him to parachute to safety. Martin’s idea was approved by the RAF and within a year, the whole RAF fleet had been installed with ejector seats.
John Philip Holland has changed the way deep sea exploration could be conducted and the way war could be done at sea. Holland’s first prototype sank on its very first voyage. In 1881, he launched Fenian Ram and it was a success. He won three competitions held by the US Naval Department to design and construct submarines. After successful tests, the US Navy bought its first submarine Holland VII and continued to purchase six more. He was born in Ireland but died in America, it isn’t thought he was the bloke who was shot in Boston, although it has never been stated he wasn’t.
This chaps name is Lawson, he moans about micro aggression from his local Irish police service, but states he has never experienced it. This makes Lawson a pilot because he has never flown a plane either, I suppose he could be a surgeon too ? Same applies. However Lawson has been the victim of racism, and this isn’t right, so don’t do it. Even when you are in a bad temper.

Late one Autumn afternoon in 1949 I hopped on a Number 3 bus in Sandymount, heading towards O’Connell Street. Just coming up to my 20th birthday, I was a sports reporter with The Irish Times. At Ringsend Tommy Godwin, who was Shamrock Rovers’ goalkeeper at the time, got onto the bus and sat down beside me. We were off to a football match. As we walked up the North Wall towards the Liverpool boat, we were joined by Tommy O’Connor, who worked with me occasionally in the caseroom of The Irish Times. A nippy outside left, he also played for Rovers.
The crossing to Liverpool was as ordinary as any other crossing in those days. There was none of the present-day razzmatazz surrounding the Ireland soccer team and there would have been fewer than 200 travelling supporters. After we berthed, the two Tommys went off to join the rest of the Irish team in a hotel in Southport. Next morning, training got under way at Southport’s ground on Haig Avenue and, while Billy Lord was the official trainer — how could we lose with the Lord on our side? — it was the 1949 Footballer of the Year in England, Manchester United’s Jackie Carey, who called the shots. Carey put Tommy Godwin through a gruelling session with a series of lobbed balls from the edge of the box. The great man’s concentration on the Rovers’ keeper was to pay off handsomely.
The weather on Wednesday, September 21st, 1949, was calm and dry. Goodison Park was packed to its old rafters with a crowd of 51,847. We were about to watch only the second ever meeting between England and Ireland. But this was the first since, just five months before on Easter Monday, Ireland had become a republic. England had won the first match, also a friendly, with a Tom Finney goal at Dalymount in 1946.
Ireland, with the wind behind them, started shakily, and England looked sure to score an early goal. But the crowd was shocked into silence after 32 minutes when Middlesbrough’s Peter Desmond was taken down by Bert Mozley of Derby County. Penalty. Con Martin stepped up, but he struck his shot close to Williams. The keeper got a hand to the ball but the force of the shot saw the ball trickling over the line. One-nil to the Republic.
Then Tommy Godwin came into his own. Constant England attacks brought save after save after save. The highlight was when he actually jammed the ball against the bar from a corner by Derby County’s John Morris. Now England’s frustration, despite their confidence and occasional brilliance, was increasing by the minute.
In the second half, it was more of the same. We were under siege. But time and again, the English were beaten back by the superb Irish defence. A key to this was the way Carey handled Tom Finney. He stood off him and allowed him to keep the ball. This allowed Ireland to use the extra breathing space to defend in greater depth.
Five minutes from the end, Ireland got out of their own penalty box and a superb movement was finished by Peter Farrell, who lobbed the advancing Bert Williams. Two-nil. Mission impossible accomplished.
Then it was over. England, with their first full-time manager, Walter Winterbottom, at the helm, had been nobbled in their own back yard. The English crowd, however, was generous. As he left the field, Godwin, the hero of the hour, was given a noisy ovation.

Gareth Bale will be back involved after sitting out Thursday's friendly, but fellow key man Aaron Ramsey is not part of the squad. With Wayne Hennessey and Adam Davies both nursing injuries, third-choice goalkeeper Danny Ward will start in goal for the second game running.
As for the Republic of Ireland, Seamus Coleman missed the England game with a hamstring problem, only adding to Kenny's injury woes as Enda Stevens was also absent. Having had a batch of coronavirus-related withdrawals last month, the Boys in Green lost Callum Robinson ahead of the Wembley trip after he tested positive for COVID-19. Alan Browne has also since tested positive, but he is not believed to have been in close contact with any other players or backroom staff members.
Aaron Connolly is the other fitness doubt, with Kenny expected to make changes in that Leckwith.

The performance is disappointing so far, as others have said. We look fairly solid at the back, but midfield isn't creating much. Players who can shine on their day, like James, Brooks and Ampadu, seem to have lost form or been out in the last month or two, and aren't having great games. Bales looks as though he is on the way back, but is being pulled very deep. Several times we have had possession wide with men in the box, and then passed all the way back to our keeper rather than getting in a cross. On one occasion this nearly led to a RoI goal. Norrington-Davies has indeed had a touch of the Taylors. [Post edited 15 Nov 2020 18:03]
