That is why Wales has the highest infection rates over the last 7 days. The highest total cases per head of the population. The highest death rate in the uk. Drakeford has had only one priority during the last year but has failed the Welsh people spectacularly.

The problem in wales is they went from a far too short two week lockdown into a free for all. Drakeford was just too stubborn to keep the high infection rates in lockdown until the rate fell sharply. A lack of leadership which led to hundreds of unnecessary deaths in Wales.

I agree, we did go from firebreak to quickly, but evidence has shown that the firebreak did work well.As i stated, he didn't get everything right, but on balance has got most decisions correct

Drakers Firebreak was a success in that it brought down infection rates and the firebreak was actually something that was being advocated by scientists and others in the UK, contrast that with the mess that England was in with their shambolic tier system. Where Drakers and WAG went wrong was not having strict restrictions in place to capitalise on the progress and gains afforded by the firebreak.
Unlike the first lockdown when pretty much everything was closed and anything that moved stood out like a sore thumb, the more recent restrictions have provided people with a lot more freedom and it must be very difficult for the cops to deal with business as usual AND enforce lockdown legislation etc, especially if they are losing staff to Covid too.
The figures aren’t great, but the IT issue with the lighthouse lab dumped 11,000 additional positive results on to Wales figures, if they’d have been drip fed through as and when they were recorded the numbers would have increased but at a much lower rate.
Peoples stupidity is a driver in the increase, I think areas where Covid was exceptionally high should have been subject to road blocks staffed by the military to prevent unnecessary travel etc, we should have learned our lessons from what happened in Italy where the successful state lived down and the unsuccessful states made token gestures at restrictions. | | | |
