Can this side really go up automatically ? 22:58 - Dec 20 with 2283 viewsKeithHaynes

I think we are two quality players backing up what we have already, has to be a striker or at least someone to score between eight and ten goals before the season ends, plus some pace out on the wings as an impact player or making a switch to 442 easier.

Thoughts ?

A decent striker and get mgw back to full fitness.

We wont be far off Keith.

We're missing a good striker to partner Ayew and somebody in midfield who has the confidence to drive forward with the ball, taking people on and not being afraid of losing it. Gallagher was outstanding at doing exactly that (as I frequently highlighted last season).

A goalkeeper who is willing to put himself in harm's way when necessary would be a bonus, however our defence has proven thus far that they can still be successfull despite having such a liability behind them.

Cooper hates wingers.
I enjoy wingers.
Watching Nathan and Routs flying wide was Gylfi as 10 was Swansea.

So 2 players for Cooper might be - a loan move for Brewster as he is not playing ?
But yes a striker.
Is Cullen good enough ?

I would get a better player than Fulton for centre midfield.
I dont think he offers enough on the ball.
Maybe a Joe Morrell type..?

Keeper is one to keep an eye on ... mmmm ...

This.

A Brewster or Abraham with Gibbs White and we would be up with Norwich. We are only and injury to Lowe or Ayew away from struggling.

Definitely a decent ‘9’ - one who can score 10+ goals in the second half - plus MGW return would keep us in the top 6 battle.

To compete for top 2 for me we need a decent plan B - when A isn’t working or we are chasing a goal in the last 10/15 mins - that for me is someone who can go past & commit defenders in either a wide role or a strong ‘10’. Not a true winger but someone who cuts inside & can either shoot, pass or win penalties (modern day Sinclair on 10/11 season form).

Yeah agree with this word for word. We can't rely on only Lowe and Ayew all season, though the schedule does ease somewhat in the new year I think?

Second paragraph spot on though, there is no plan B with Cooper. He chucks on all our attacking players, doesn't change the system and hopes for a ball to drop in the area.

We could be brothers in arms Dwight were you not a manure fan.

Yep,Guv,a striker worthy of the name and a goalkeeper who is prepared for a little discomfort to earn his large wage.

MGW back definitely improves the midfield. Could we get Brewster on loan again? If he's not being picked he might jumpt at the chance and that'd be great for all sides I think.

We don't seem to do well with wingers under Cooper, better off with wing backs so maybe Brewster on loan and getting MGW fit would be enough?
Instead of going 442 maybe 343 would be better? Lowe can go left, Garrick or Routs on the right and that leaves Cullen, Ayew and Brewster/A N Other or maybe Gyokeres up front?

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

This is what does my swede in with Steve.
He buys wide men like Lowe even though he doesnt like them. Garrick looks a terrific unt wide out but not given a chance and could well see his career suffer as a result. It's why I seem to be on my own in my dislike of Steve. And that's ok.

Keeper is key though as right now ,Fred is getting away with murrder giving all the responsibilities of defending to his 3 centre backs. It aint fair on them.In fact Bennett needs to bring this up at the team meeting. Clean sheets are obscuring his rank cowardice;we have clean sheets becaue any danger is sniffed out by the magnificent Cabango and Guehi combination along with Bennett.

Woodman gets a virtual harem of supporters who defend him to the hilt whereas Bennett who has solidified our defence got pelters after a below parr Derby game.

No doubt the teams around us will strengthen so not doing so means going backwards. A Brewster would have us top at the moment without doubt. Has Cooper got his eye on one? Not sure we need much else if MGW is making good progress and will be back in the new year. Dhanda is fine as backup to MGW in the creative role.

We can but it’s unlikely

We are 5th favourites at 14/1 to win the League and you can gets 5/1 on automatic promotion with 8/13 that we will finish in the top six.

You can get just 3/1 now on is getting promotion as things stand

Not very good odds but it shows how far we’ve come under Cooper

I think Norwich are in the driving seat with Bournmeouth not far behind .

I think Brentford ,sadly,a re going to be right up there

If we can put away chances we have every chance but we have to avoid having Derby or Boro nights .
Looking at others,I think this might be the year that sees Pulis have a team go down,a shame a I have a oft spot for the Owls. A massive club very badly unfolding.

Cooper has to pull two rabbits out of the hat this season with top quality loans. They will be going for th 3rd spot against Brentford who can be flakey in spells and Watford who may have 'player power' issures. Cardiff tend to finish the season well.

Billy Gilmour is one he should go after purely on the basis that he might be abvailable. Billy is Scottish so would not know Cooper. Callum Hudson Odoi would be an ambitious option and probably only would happen it the player throws a strop with Frank over playing time and Frank wanting to see him as a goal scorer / striker. There could be some leverage if Chelsea sell a slew of defenders and recall Guehi.

Tyler Roberts will be known and would be an option but is injury prone.

Hudson Odoi......no chance.

Billy Gilmour....we need a striker who can compete with the monster defenders, if not for height needs to be quick enough to get around them, Brewster was, is Gilmour because he's 5'5 so won't be winning many headers.

Coops should test the water around Brewster first I reckon. He knows us, we know him, a good fit guaranteed. Besides him I don't really know.

Tyler Roberts is quick but he is a bit of a sicknote, not a great thing in the championship where he'll get kicked hard and often.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Brewster's chance of coming is far less than Hudson Odoi in my opinion. Hudson Odio has signed a long term contract and needs game time. He is behind player worth £80m. Cooper offers a friendly face and a tried and trusted ally who has done wonders with the raw Guehi.
Press report suggest Chelsea are well impressed.

It could happen but the stars must align. WRT Gilmour, Swansea did not need Gallagher as they had Dhanda Celina and others. He came anyway as he is a top player.

From what I have seen of the league we can easilly compete for top two, but Norwich, since being insanely lucky to beat us seem to have gone from strength to strength and will take some stopping.

Bournemouth on other hand, I have a feeling they could lose a few in January, it won't be as straight forward for them as some of their fans seem to think. Can't stand their manager either.

Hudson-Odoi... what has happened to this forum?

Why on Earth do people think a player subject to a bid from Bayern Munich for £70m less than 3 months ago would drop down to play in The Championship?

Why don't we put in a bid to loan Pogba as well whilst we're at it. He's out of favour at his club as well.

Its a long shot for sure but Reanto Sanches remember? He came from Bayern Munchen. Hudson Odoi has only played less than 40 games many as sub. I was surprised Swansea got Brewster. Chelsea need to integrate Haavertz, Ziyech and Pulusic all wide players.

If Chelsea want him to get 20 starts under under his belt and keep the player sharp it might be possible. Its about player development. A bit more advanced than say Tammy Abraham who had two spells in the championship at Bristol City and Aston Villa. If it was OK for Tammy why not Callum who knows all bout Cooper and his methods?

The question was can Swansea city go up automatically. I suggested Cooper would need to pull rabbits like Callum out of a hat to do so.
