Eifion Jones told me that Ezra Moseley was the fastest he’d ever kept wicket to. Moseley was bowling from the pavilion end at St Helens and he and the slips were standing so far back he could hear Wilf Wooler in the commentary box. It was the only time he’d ever played with five third men! Norman Gifford, who was an England spinner but dreadful bat, was last man in for Leicestershire and asked Moseley on his way in just to keep it straight and was bowled first ball.
