Where people are allowed to gather restriction free

Whilst people returning home to see loved ones with days to live are not allowed out of quarantine.

All this whilst the politicians, uefa officials and hangers on, rich and famous can travel again without any restrictions

Wrong he is exactly that working class born in Glasgow brought up in Dunblane. His grandfather was a professional footballer in the era when all footballers were working class. He was coached in his early days by his mother if he was middle class he would have had a paid coach. He has got to the top through sheer hard work. He is not a product on the Wimbledon Middle class elite. He has probably got to the top because of his hard work.

Poll: Sholud Wales rollout vaccination at full speed.

Being born in Glasgow doesn’t make people working class. He spent a good chunk of his childhood living in Spain and the USA on tennis academies

And a quite brilliant expose of another hateful poster.
Done in perfect ignorance as Murray has not exactly had a bed of roses life a a kid.
Why are we seeing such hate towards
England and now

anyone who is not "working class".

Another thread ruined by inverted snobbery.

Look at the state we're in.

Far more bile spills from your keyboard that mine OHL. I just question your hypocrisy

Again, Scottish kids with nothing don’t spend summers on tennis academies in Florida

Murray made it to the top because he was outside the elite Wimbledon bubble that only sees rich kids progress in tennis. He succeeded because his talent and determination earned him a place in a tennis academy in Spain .

Trouble is local tennis courts are busy for a month or so during Wimbledon and just after then are empty for the rest of the year. It needs determination and talent to be a champion not a silver spoon.

His dad had his own opticians business and sent him to private school when he was 10. His training costs when he moved abroad were £30k - £35k per year, which his mum as an elite tennis coach and his dad with his business covered. This was maybe 20 years ago.

Not pretending it wasn’t a struggle for them, but how many working class families could have paid that in the late 90s/early 2000s? I’m not sure if that is just him or includes his brothers training.

Yes, there’s obviously sacrifice, grit, talent and hard work involved. They don’t just let any family who can afford it on these camps.

Plenty in this neck of the woods.Yesterday afternoon,2 free.

It is about desire

Kids from "working class"/deprived/poor backgrounds see football a a way out-not tennis. Maybe as that is why Tennis is harder to make a good living at and a solitary game like golf and requires mental resilience to make it. Djokavic a perfect example. In fact plenty of examples out there.

It is a culture issue.

The Brits are full of it

Rugby Union in England -middle class
Rugby League in England-working class

Rugby Union in Wales -working class

Golf -middle class yet plenty of working class queue up on the first green.

Class. You just gotta beat it.Nothing kills the human spirit more

I know you’re not going to reply to this, but the financial barriers rule tennis out for most people, in the UK anyway.

Having a knock down the local tennis centre only gets you so far. It’s not a nice situation, but it’s reality.

Plus even if that wasn’t the case, there are far more elite footballers than tennis players for obvious reasons.

Do talented sports people (in the USA) actually get scholarships sponosred by sports teams, or is that just a tv lie?

https://www.firstpointusa.com/

Sems like in the USA at least, if you're really good but poor you can still make it, in any sport. I don't doubt the UK is still ruled by a class structure, you need money or the right family name.

Who keeps bringing up class on here? And why? Money is what really matters. Ask Alan Sugar!

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

.

Tennis appears to be elitist because to be any good kids need proper coaching from a very young age. Technique is everything. Far more so than football.

The great unwashed would have to forego their fags n booze to pay for little Kyle to get proper coaching. With football they can just rock up, with their fags n booze and hurl abuse.

Pro free speech and alternative opinions - Anti gang-bullying and poor modding thereof - Will always make a stand against those who consistently choose to turn a blind eye

I used to play tennis at Dunvant Park .Chum of mine's dad was a tennis coach. What you say is right but coaching is available at local tennis centres,at least it here is on Wirral. We have a public indoor tennis centre adjoining a very underprivileged area .

Same with Golf.

Maybe it's out laziness and shallow attitude to hard work

Football seems the easiest way for kids from sink estates to get the cash, bling, girls and car. It's what they want. The idea of edication ,of study and application is anathema to many .

You can have coaching in Swansea tennis centre. My guess is it isn’t the same standard as £30k a year academies in Spain and the US or the coaching he would have had from his Scottish national tennis coach mum.

My old fella always said Wales woes was because they turned their back on the Cross.
When I used to go back ,the Church/Chapel influence was clearly waning and about time too.

They even closed the Welsh chapel in Birkenhead.
