Looks like some of the Hungary fans were directing racial abuse at some of the England players, monkey chants etc. The Hungary FA were already under a suspension for UEFA run matches, be interesting to see what FIFA do now.

Aldo kalulu 's younger brother Pierre scored for France u21 and is very highly rated and was signed by AC Milan. Aldo's injury problems have continued sadly but he has had six games this season and scored twice in the second league in France for Sochaux. [Post edited 2 Sep 2021 23:34]

The Royal Academy? A poet like my good self or a thespian?. Rare in a footballer these day although Vinnie Jones has done a movie or two.

Here I am. Not an idiot. MicK MCarthy, Kevin Sheedy (Welsh born), Tony Casscarino, John Aldridge, Ray Houghton even our own Obafemi to mention just 6 of the top of my head. Many many more in the Charlton era would never have gone to the 1994 World cup. England did not even qualify. Matt le Tissier had very few caps. He could have had 60-70 with Cymru or ROI. There are two hot prospects from Wolves keeping their powder dry. Chem Campbell 18 played twice for the full team and Owen Hesketh 20 staring for the u23 team. They might keep their options open and give Southgate until the age of 22 before making the call. Chem needs to get past the likes of Saka, Mount, Sancho the guys from man City simply to get a consideration. By dodging u21 games for Wales they avoid the stress that Rice got when he switched. Today Brennan Johnson finally committed. The Welsh recruitment team know how to play their cards.

All you mention were not going to get caps for England. Rice is a top talent that as the initial post stated is exceptional footballer, anyone who thinks he would of been better of playing for Ireland are deluded (the topic got derailed). The Irish contingent on her sound like a scorned scruffy boyfriend dumped by a good looking lad who is obviously going on to better things. Amazing that those who hate the English want them playing for the national side.

Yes, I agree. He certainly has a higher probability of making the closing stages of any tournament held at Wembley with beneficial referees and fixtures. Otherwise... Yes, he does.

International football is not about winning for 90 per cent of nations. As Bale said, the dragon on the badge is all we need. I would rather lose 5 nil every game than win as Team GB. Rice would have been a legend forever for Ireland, he will never be an England legend.

Do you think children in Dublin go to sleep with posters of Steve Staunton or Kevin Kilbane on their walls? Do you think they argue over who gets to be Glen Whelan when playing football in the school yard? A footballer's legacy is determined by what they win. George Best isn't a legend because he played for Northern Ireland. John O'Shea wont be remembered for turning up for Ireland 118 times. It will be for his individual successes, winning Champions League trophies, Premier League titles and other medals.

Some on here don't realise what a winning mentality is about. Of course its about winning and you chose a side that can give you that if you've the ability and eligibility. England will win tournaments in the near future, I've no doubt about that. Ireland will not, I can state with the same certainty.

The other poster said this "Only an idiot would think a bloke born in England would be better off playing for the ROI" I gave a number of examples where this was not the case. Playing for ROI was the best alternative for all of them. Overall a superstar with stronger affiliations to England is better of playing for England in terms of going far into tournament and commercial aspects. I pointed out two Welsh prospects who are keepig their option open have played for wales at u17 . Le Tissier might reflect in later life why he did not play for Wales alongside Ryan Giggs and Bellamy. Some players like Jay Da Silva of Bristol City is eligible for Wales but does not seem bothered as it does not motivate him . That is fine as well. He was England u21 but will not wear the three Lions now. His kid brother Cole is struggling to make a careers but was a regular Welsh underage player. Jay could still have a Welsh career if he made the call. Sorba Thomas is eligible and making a splash for Huddersfield. Get him in.
