We need respite care, we used to have cottage hospitals so main hospitals could clear beds meaning A&E didn't get clogged up. We used to have an A&E in Singleton but now we have one A&E for the whole of Swansea and it's not good enough. Do our politicians have to wait like the rest of us, I'd bet it's VIP treatment for them.

Caught a bit of the HTV Wales news earlier, and they were running this story, 'We’re talking about rationing healthcare' says senior Welsh doctor https://www.itv.com/news/wales/2021-11-18/were-talking-about-rationing-healthcar Think we are in for a right shaky few months. :( [Post edited 18 Nov 2021 20:25]

For once I am in complete agreement with you. I raised this point last year when discussing the problems with big centralised hospitals, quarantine and recuperation.

It was relentless, people coming in all the time and there were at least 6 ambulances waiting to offload at any any one time. I saw at least 10 cops there during the course of the night with prisoners/people who needed medical care. Staff were good as gold and I felt sorry for them. There is no easy solution and we need changes. We’ve an ageing population who cost a lot more to treat and Wales has the highest percentage of elderly people out of the 4 home Nations which costs a lot more. There’s a huge amount of bed blocking taking place because hospitals can’t discharge patients on account of the lack of care in the community, staffing on hospital wards post Covid is really stretched and staff are walking as they’ve had enough. It’s no better in England. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/a-e-delays-kill-thousands-patient-deat https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hereford-worcester-59042177

That's always happened, Jim. My wife had a particularly bad seizure one Friday night and following the rules of her specialist I dialled 999. She had been in status (longer than 5 minutes) She was treated and we were eventually sent to the waiting room while we waited for the doctor to clear us to go home. We sat down next to a young woman who had a small cut on her finger which she was holding up as if she was pointing to the sky, a bit of blood was trickling down from the visible cut.. Does that sound like an emergency? That kind of thing is apparently common.

The NHS is not fit for purpose experiences lately have confirmed that even the most ardent supporter of this archaic failing module cant stand by or support. We are getting worse annually and the solution is to throw money at a problem thats never been fixed. Cant the First minister admit this, get a long term cross party agreement then get in someone who is experienced and reform?

Yes, we need to hear about what is happening to address the problem in Wales rather than be told it's a problem, we know that. The longer it goes on the more difficult it gets.

Then you get old people who are reluctant to ring because they don't want to bother people It's a generation thing

But triage system must need looking at ,why are people who've been transported to hospital by ambulance , (that's miracle in itself) then have to sit for hours outside or in corridors if those who you believe don't need treatment in A&WE are being seen first . My wife's auntie who's in her nineties just spent 15 hours in A&E and the diagnosis broken ribs . Never mind that lot in cardiff fining farmers for planting trees a couple not quite according to where they should be or blaming Covid

Those who don't need emergency treatment are waiting the longest, and probably the ones making the most noise about the wait.

Mr B, without trying to trump you i have had three relatives recently needing the NHS who have been let down abysmally. The thing is even though they were treated or not in the case of my elderly 95yr old relative they thought the NHS is beyond reproach until it was to late. Her sister who is also an ex Ward Sister is flabergasted at the ineptidude and the way it was handled, but would not dream of kicking off.
