Beckanbauer Didn't Wear Gloves - Thoughts on Where We Are 15:45 - Feb 22 with 702 viewsJACKMANANDBOY

A few opinions on where are right now.

Formations - Martinez and Rodgers favoured 433, with the wide men making 451 out of possession or even 631 if the defence was pushed. This seemed to work in the Championsip.

Goalkeepers - These are about making saves and catching crosses etc. Benda is probably our best option in this respect. Beckanbauer was not a keeper, do we focus playing out at the expense of keeping goal?

Defence - We change every game, Christie, Cabango and Manning at left back have the basis of a back four. We need a strong centre back with pace.

Midfield - Grimes in front of the back four with Downes breaking and Paterson/Ntcham in the attacking central role.

Attack - Wolf looks like he could fill a wide birth, the other side could suit Whittaker. In Piroe we have a gem but we don't get him involved enough at the edge of the box.

Players Overall- We have 7 or 8 players who look like championship players if we use them properly, Christie, Cabango, Downes, Grimes, Patterson, Piroe, Wolf, Ntcham. A decent manager would build a side with these resources.

Recruitment - We need to get our better players settled in their right positions and then fill the gaps through recruitment of one or two good upgrades. Fisher is a worry, he's not an improvement at all.

Management and Team Development. We are not settled after many months. I don't buy into this process/project narrative. The good managers we have had including Martinez, Rodgers and Laudrup had a structured approach that they started with and kept, then thet built on this with selective recruitment to replace the weak links.

We in trouble
We have a manager we apparently cannot sack. That is the reason people want him to stay right now. Nobody apart from the terminally dumb are not longer taken in by this faux project, this transition, this whole scale change. We were ok before this clown took over . He forgets that l
Cooper left us with a decent legacy . Martin a small right now is appalling .

This is where we are

Players don’t matter to Russ. It is all about HIM.

We have enough quality to make play offs. We won’t

Yes, could include him as a potentially decent championship player.

We have a Championship quality keeper. It's just not Fisher.
We have 15 games left, 11 wins would give us a very good chance of the playoffs.
It's not going to happen under Martin, we would be lucky to win 5.
But it is the sort of transformation in form that Martinez had when he first came in.
The sooner the club bite the bullet and sack Martin the better.

Not just me then.
Owners are killing us.
Those who interviewed Martin taken in by a clever pitch .

Martin clearly prepared very well for his interview.Oity he doesn't prepare out teams as well.

Get him out of the club

No matter what we all may like to happen ( stay, go, bring in an experienced coach to help him or a DOF to point him in the right direction) I think it is clear the best we can hope for is that he changes his formation.
Would also be great if he sees that Fisher was a bad choice and drops him, but I cannot see him climbing down on that one

"Would also be great if he sees that Fisher was a bad choice and drops him, but I cannot see him climbing down on that one"
Which would prove he is a bad manager.

Dropping a player who isn't good enough proves he's a bad manager?

Isn't it the opposite? Isn't dropping a player who isn't good enough a good thing?

Not that I'm judging Fisher just yet.

It's a good OP, I agree that what Martin needs to do is change formation. We would, in my opinion, be better off in a 4-1-3-2. We have 2 proper full backs, Grimes or Downes can be the holding player and Downes can step forward anyway. We have Ntcham, Pato, Wolf, Downes, Grimes, Smith and Fulton so we can change the midfield with subs if we need. We have Jospeh, Oba and Piroe but Whitaker to come back. I'm not going near Cullen, sorry, not good enough.

I believe we have a good enough squad to be doing better though the play offs may be a stretch right now.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?
