Didn't want to put this in the thread about the young lad yesterday but isn't it a myth that knife crime is worse today wasn't the 50s and 60s even worse with the likes of mods and rockers etc
I do not know what the stats are but I do know that the flick knife was something Teddy Boys were notorious for having in their possession! It seemed to be a must have accessory for many during that era!
Murder rates in the 1950s were at a historical low levels and only began to rise in the 1960s. Murder rated peaked in 2000 reaching 3 times 1950s levels since then they have dropped Current murder rates are twice the 1950s level.
I suspect there were very few knife murders by Teddy boys in the 1950s the knifes were mainly for show plus the penalties for murder and wounding were much more severe. Most murders were committed by people know to the victims. Two thirds were carried out by partners or ex partners .
There is no doubt the carrying of knives had dramatically increased in the last 10 years and knife murders have certainly increased while murders from domestic violence have decreased.

Everybody seemed to have a pen knife in the 50s and 60s. So I'm not sure that possession is up.
As long as it’s got a manually folding blade and the blade doesn’t lock in to place when it’s open it’s legal.
Yes, lock knives, flick knives and the beast in the picture I posted, all illegal. A basic, folding pen knife isn't.
There was an incident in Trallwn recently where somebody had one of those zombie knives, not sure it was reported on, to do with drugs I think. Young people, drugs, knives, it's everywhere. A friend told me off the above incident, I suppose it might just be gossip but these incidents happen regularly and are seen in the media.
It's like a lot of crime, is it really that much worse than 50 years ago or is it just reported far more and seen on social media?
Knife crime has definitely escalated in the last few years, I think in the bigger cities. I would be happy, if the government would sort this out first, rather than worrying about racist or homophobic hate speech.

Razor bladesunder their drape collars too ( I’m told )
A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.
