You are only as good as your last job, but in ex swans boss Steve Cooper they really did have a stats trailblazer in the attempt to return to the Premier League. 1 It must have been the shoes, click above.

| The Swansea City win percentage rate that Roberto Martinez wins hands down on 14:21 - Feb 22 with 931 views | Badlands | I looked to points per game average. More important in league standings than win %. All of these comparisons type things are flawed given we were in different leagues and managers inherited different situations. After Martinez, Cooper has the highest points rating but at what cost? Destroyed any enjoyment and flunked two play offs with very good squads. I haven’t included short stay managers Points per game average 1.10 Clement 1.18 Guidolin 1.26 Martin 1.28 Carvalhal 1.31 Monk 1.32 Laudrup 1.40 Potter 1.47 Sousa 1.55 Rodgers 1.61 Cooper & Jacket 1.77 Martine | |

The cost was nothing, he gained £20m for finishing as playoff runner up. You can’t flunk playoffs that you are major underdogs for. Your stats are wrong too. Martin is on 1.22 not 1.26. Laudrup was 1.13 not 1.32 Haven’t bothered checking the rest but knew they were wrong just by sight.

Can you expand on " he gained £20m for finishing as play-off runner up" I thought the playoff runner up got to keep the final receipts and nothing else. Or are you including player sales etc?

The losers of the Championship play-offs receive around £20m over next 3 seasons. £13.5m Premier League solidarity payments (£4.5m a year) plus £6.9m EFL central distribution (£2.3m a year).

You may be right, that came from the Swiss Ramble. But aside from potential financial benefits, there are huge things to gain by getting to the play off final. For example would Piroe have come to us had we not? Would Pato have gone elsewhere? Would Man United have loaned us Laird? Liverpool Williams etc sure those loans didn’t work out too well but they could have. For example we are going to find recruitment so much harder in this next off season than the one we just had. Man Utd already took Laird off us to give to a better team. Loaning top class youths will be extremely difficult and enticing players to this part of the U.K. off the back of such a poor season when they have other options will be extremely difficult. It always amuses me when people say getting to the play off final is no different than finishing 20th.

I've no doubt about the bigger picture from finishing higher in the division, but questioned based on the £20m figure as I'd not heard or read anything before specifically to being runner up. Edit due to predictive text [Post edited 22 Feb 2022 16:26]

He could have really taken us forward And a great name in the game too. Bob though. Loved him Look at the nonentity we have in comparison . We really should bring up former managers with real gravitas

Although:- “People are still quite unforgiving regards Cooper’s departure from the swans. However, Graham Potter left for Brighton, and yes for a fee, Cooper on the other hand was paid off when all chances of reconciliation had broken down.” We got a 7 figure fee for him didn’t we? As opposed to paying him off. For me, Coopers departure was far better than Potters, Cooper went out of his way to continue to manager the club as they arranged the other manager to replace him.

The fee, reported by Walesonline at between a million and a million and a half, was of course welcome. However, whoever was to blame for the timing, it would have been better if Cooper had left asap after the end of the season to allow recruitment of the new manager in plenty of time. Also not sure how much managing of the team he actually did in the close season ?

Cooper should definitely have followed his heart and left straight after the disappointing play off final We could have started rebuilding from the day after rather than waiting until a week before the season started

Don’t get this one I’m afraid? He tried to leave to go to Fulham and Palace much earlier and both those were blocked by high compensation demands according to reports. A bit of a Gylfi scenario, only ourselves to blame.

Definitely paid him £110,000 when he left, or thereabouts. Did we get anything from forest ? Not sure mate.

I would have no reason to doubt it. Swans under Martinez were exciting to watch. Never bought into the Judas nonsense, managers and players come and go. While he was year Roberto won only the second championship I have witnessed us having in 50 years. Had he not left, we would not have had Rodgers. Same there, if he hadn't gone to Liverpool, we wouldn't have had Laudrup and maybe not seen Michu and Bony They are all part of one of the two most successful stories of our long topsy turvy history. Hopefully one day we can say the same about Martin. We can only hope
