I believe Potters issues with the owners started in January with their refusal (quite rightly) to pay an astonishing £7m for Ryan Woods. Stoke paid the asking price and have regretted it ever since.
Cooper issues with the ownership was being given Goykeres, who he did not develop and then Morris and Ariolla two full and experienced USA internationals returning from injury. .
Martin now has a January to negotiate and the ownership have over ridden his wishes and returned Whittaker to the club. Whittaker has performed excellently where as Patterson who Martin has indulged for too long has gone missing. Ntcham has not hit the highs expected of him and coiuld play deeper and Fulton is a defensive player, Cooper is a top performer and the jury is still out on Cullen.
They will expect Martin to play him. The ownership expected Cooper to play Goykeres and Arriolla and Morris. He did not and they went their separate ways. |  |

Gyorkes actually made 12 appearances during a time that Ayew and Lowe were on fire and Morris made 4 appearances before he broke down with injury Ariola only played twice admittedly...but then they both arrived out of condition but Cooper gave those players you keep mentioning more game time than Martin has the likes if Ogebeta....coincidentally are Ariola and Morris pulling up trees anywhere these days | |

Good post that the problem we have is Ollie Cooper plays the same position as Whittaker.
Can Whittaker play up top or will Ollie go a bit deeper.
Big step up from playing for a mid table Championship side to a League 1 side flying at the top of the league creating loads of chances.
I hope he does well for us I think he will.

Arriola was not in the US squad for the World Cup despite being at his peak and healthy.
Morris managed 3 minutes spread over their 4 World Cup games (2mins vs Wales and 1 min vs Netherlands).
Both still in the MLS which I would say is upper half league 1 level on the whole. |  |

We play 2 off the main striker, we play 2 with a back 3 or even recently a back 4......no reason that we can't play Whittaker and Cooper off Piroe.
The 2 that play in the position are asked to do a lot of tracking especially to try and cut the angles down on the opposition full backs, does Whittaker have that work rate is my concern.
I would certainly have him back as the back up for Piroe and look at trying him out in one of the 2 behind Piroe......versatility within this squad or even any squad is a bonus at this level. |  |
